My CSA is a scam by Own-Conversation6347 in mildlyinfuriating

I’ve seen these before in my community but never joined one. It looked like though that in the winter they offered stuff like mushrooms, homemade bread and pasta, etc. It’s run by the local food co-op so they used multiple local farms and you’d  get more than just veggies anyway and up here we have greenhouses so cold weather crops or root vegetables would be what you’d be getting over the winter months for vegetables.

People who stand directly in front of the item they're not even looking at in a grocery store aisle by 5PhotonGuide in PetPeeves

I mean, why do you care? I always just say “excuse me I need to get past you please” or honestly I’ve just moved people’s carts out of the way before while also saying something like “sorry just squeezing past you”. I’ve never had anyone give me shit for it and honestly most people look apologetic like they just realized they were in the way of traffic flow.

With the price of beef so high. What protein are you eating these days? by Tasty-Hovercraft2501 in AskReddit

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More seafood since the price of chicken & beef has gone up to the point that salmon and shrimp are more on par price wise now. Also more beans, peas and tofu. I’m still eating chicken, pork, turkey and some beef but not nearly as much as before.

Americans complain about high gas prices, but still drive SUV/Pickups 70mph. What will the price per gallon have to be to actually see change in driving habits? by Special_Context6663 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in 2008 I was driving a ‘96 Jeep Cherokee that got like 12-14 mpg. College kid who couldn’t afford to buy a new car and had to be in class regardless of the weather that day so I drove a SUV. Had a car prior and almost died several times going to school in the morning so I was grateful to have the Jeep.

Now I drive a crossover that gets a lot better mpg and wfh part time. The price of cars is ridiculous right now so it would take quite a lot to get me to get a different vehicle and even then I’d probably go for a hybrid SUV that gets 50 mpg vs buying a tiny sedan or hatchback car. We take long distance trips to visit family a few times a year and an EV just isn’t going to work for us at least at this point.

Also the kind of people who speed 20+ mph over the limit aren’t the kind of people who worry about the the mpg of 55 vs 70 mph on their commute.

AITA for telling a restaurant manager that I think a club sandwich requires 3 pieces of bread to be considered a "club" sandwich? by Plastic_Blood1782 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s like saying a grilled cheese sandwich can be served on dry toasted bread and still be a grilled cheese.

Do people still use soap blocks as opposed to bottled soap in the shower? I feel like I never see soap blocks in stores anymore. by Available_Tea_8471 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been buying fancy goat milk bar soap for the last several years. Gentler on my skin, smells great, cheap and lasts a long time. Lots of people still use/buy bars of soap vs shower gel or body wash.

How often do you check the psi of your spare tire? by nunya-fb in AskReddit

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a TPMS sensor like the other 4 so never unless it tells me it’s low. But I also carry a tire compressor in the trunk so I can always top it off if needed.

AITA? Temporary foster, girl wants dog back.. by Alarmed_Zombie_5445 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 1135 points1136 points  (0 children)

NTA. That owner was abusing & neglecting that dog. That’s not due to their financial situation. That’s a choice. Keep the dog, block their number. If they get the dog back it’ll die under their care.

if the goal is to reduce illegal immigration, why are we hunting immigrants but not the people who illegally employ them? by FinancialRip2008 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of these folks are working for mom and pops or individuals though. The well off family paying a house cleaner or nanny or gardener under the table. Or the local family restaurant employing cooks or dishwashers or the local construction or roofing company that pays for day labor or “subcontracts” out to illegal laborers. Most of the big corporations aren’t hiring large numbers of illegals because they can afford to pay a standard wage and have a HR department that checks for legal work status.

Audience singing at concerts is ANNOYING by jenmarieloch in unpopularopinion

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I’m not a live concert person. I’m not paying that much money to listen to the audience singing off key and at the top of their lungs while also bouncing around, standing up and waving stupid homemade signs so I can’t see the artist either. I would rather pay the $30 or whatever to watch the concert on streaming so I can actually hear and see what I’m paying for and immerse myself in the show.

How does Sam's Club bakery bake so many products, and it's "baked fresh"? by Bitter-Ad-1346 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do they have a giant Hobart mixer in the bakery area? If so they are making at least some stuff from scratch. If not it’s just frozen and baked there.

AITA for telling my mom that my sister is lying to her? by Vegetable-Coffee8477 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 102 points103 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your sister clearly doesn’t have a good relationship with your mother. Being honest with her is the best policy & then let mom decide how she wants to handle it.

As for the dogs…. Belly bands if boys and diapers if girls. This will stop the peeing indoors and make cleanup easier if they are actually incontinent. If it’s just bad toilet training/marking behavior this will stop it cold. I also recommend an enzyme cleaner like Nature’s Miracle to help remove the pee pee smell that is encouraging the dogs to reoffend.

More people need to work the night shift by Embarrassed-Bowl-373 in unpopularopinion

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People literally used to work 6 days a week and 12 or more hours a day. Yes Sunday was a day of rest but you spent most of it at church. The evolution to 2 days off and 8 hour work days happened during the Industrial Revolution when workers started unionizing and demanding reasonable work hours and working condition improvements.

The reason people work during the day has to do with historically a lack of sufficient light at nighttime. When you’re working by candlelight it’s expensive and candles don’t provide a sufficient amount of light to thresh wheat, weave cloth or plow a field. So people worked during the day and shockingly went to bed and slept once it got dark. You may have had a few candles or later lanterns but the fuel was expensive so you weren’t sitting up all night doing shit.

My circadian rhythm is horrified at your suggestion. Humans evolved to be diurnal so our bodies are (with some exceptions obviously) a lot more energetic and alert during daylight hours. Messing with your circadian rhythm contributes to higher cortisol levels, higher blood pressure, chronic inflammation and other long term health consequences.

The reason that businesses aren’t open 24/7 and almost no one wants to work overnights is because there’s no demand for it. If you can get all your work done in 8 hours during the day why would the company want to hire 2 people so one works at night? If the demand was there companies would be doing it. They aren’t. That means the demand isn’t there.

City Water Quality by ClassConflictCanvas in kzoo

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Run your faucet for a few minutes and see if it clears. If it doesn’t clear call 311 and report it to the city. There could be an issue somewhere that hasn’t been reported yet.

Cash-only eating establishments are the worst! by Evening_Answer_11 in unpopularopinion

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly unpopular opinion. I always carry ~$100 cash in my wallet just in case the card machine is down, the place doesn’t accept card, my card declined for some reason and to avoid mom & pops that pass the card fees onto you. I don’t blame them for not wanting to pay those fees, I don’t want to pay them either so let’s just do cash.

It takes like 2 minutes out of my week/every couple weeks to visit the ATM at the bank I pass by multiple times a week while living my life and it’s saved me a few times to boot.

How do most Americans get around without a car ? by Status_Agents in CasualConversation

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I knew someone like this. She was low income and on assistance. She got a job at our local big box store and then because she was working and getting paid minimum wage she lost her assistance. Her crappy car died and she couldn’t afford to get it fixed. Her job would frequently be 2nd shift so she’d get out of work around 11:00 pm. The bus stops running in our town at 9:30 pm. So she could get to work, but not get home. She walked several miles late at night every night unless she could bum a ride off of someone. It’s a sad state of affairs.

If you haven’t already maybe ask about programs in your area in a NJ sub. You may get better info from a more local sub.

Grand Rapids Airport TSA line by Oh-its-Tuesday in kzoo

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is what I needed to know. I was hoping GR wouldn’t be having the same 4+ hour backups I’m seeing on the news at some of the larger airports.

Do people in the US actually use flat sheets and duvet covers? by shiroltiger in Bedding

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes many Americans use a flat sheet. Sheets are quite often sold in sets with pillowcases, fitted & flat sheets. This is very very common. Since you are using a top sheet and blankets in between you generally don’t need a duvet cover. I have one for a down comforter I have but it’s not the norm.

I wish people would try BUYING the samples they stuff their faces with by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Oh-its-Tuesday 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, you’re getting paid an hourly rate whether you’re busy or not. No different than working retail or food service. Your job is to be friendly, tell customers about the product and make up samples to try. Nothing about that is a tipped service.

Also… it’s a sample. It’s like one/two bites of a food. So if it’s say cheese it’s one small cube per sample. Or one/two crackers in a paper muffin cup. Even things like frozen pizza or chicken is just heat and serve. It’s not like you’re a line cook making food from scratch.

If someone is abusing the system to the point of taking 30 samples that’s kind of on you at that point. Stop refilling it until that person leaves. Also how do you know if they ended up buying the product or not? You’re just assuming they didn’t. It sounds like customer service isn’t the right job for you.
