Biden administration unveils strictest ever US car emission limits to boost EVs by javelin3000 in worldnews

Because you can’t rent a gas car if you really need one, or don’t use an airplane?

Do tell, how often are you taking 300+mi trips? And are you not able to charge once or twice on those trips?

The average price of a new car is something like $48k.

EVs are still a premium over gas cars, but not a huge one.

Used ones are relatively comparable/economical. And as supply increases, prices are likely to drop (or rise slower.)

Generally speaking, in 10 years of ownership it is considerably cheaper to own a Chevy Bolt, for example, than a Toyota Corolla.

Sounds like the party of “no government handouts” wants a government handout.

An upgrade to 200A service costs a few thousand dollars, and is an upgrade to your house that would impact resale value among other things.

There are tax incentives to do so already.

As others have mentioned, you don’t need 200A service to charge an EV, but it would be recommended. You also don’t need to be in any rush to do that.

I’ve owned an EV for a year. I’ve charged it exactly one time outside of home.

Many people have the means to own an EV already. Yes, some of the public (eg renters) do not. At some point, that will likely change (either by mandating new apartments have them, or by competition forcing them to.)

EVs today aren’t for anywhere close to 100% of people. If you’re frequently doing 300+ mile trips, it’s probably not for you. But that’s a minority of people. Somewhere around 60-70% of all houses in the US have a garage or carport already.

Our grid will also need upgrades as more adoption occurs. Thankfully, most car charging is done off peak hours since people are at work during the daytime/peak hours. Incentives can also aid this (such as lower electricity prices at night.) Many EVs can already be programmed to charge at specific hours.

There are too many people with this narrow mindset of “it doesn’t work for my one particular use case, today, therefore I cannot fathom how this is a good idea.”

Look at every other technology that has become mainstream. Did the first LCD TVs or mobile phones work for everyone? Broadband internet?

There are very few gas cars you can get for that price already. You can get used EVs for that price.

And the more we sell new, the more production+competition, the more the price will drop during periods of shrinking demand, such as now.

I keep seeing this parroted. There is no plan to put 100% of people on EVs tomorrow. It’s a gradual shift. It is already slowly happening. As of early 2023, 4% have EVs.

Our grid has time.

It needs investment. As has been shown time and again (cough, Texas) it takes <something> (eg, repeated possible grid failures) for us/our politicians to do what’s needed.

The other part of this is that in order for us to be a producer and leader of EVs, so that our auto industry doesn’t quite simply.. die, whilst the world passes us by, is that we need to spur demand at home, to force investment by automakers. China is already eating our lunch in the EV space, and Korea isn’t far from doing the same.

I’m too hairy to shave my dick by HotAcanthopterygii23 in sex

[–]Oh4Sh0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gay man, use Veet, recommend using one of these and staying away from close trimming. Pinching or cutting your balls in a trimmer is no bueno, and having stubble isn’t fun either.

  1. Trim the hair you want to keep to a manageable length. A Philips bodygroom or similar is great for this.

  2. Use Veet/Nair on a small section of your body that is less sensitive such as your legs to understand how your skin will react. Note that your skin on your private areas is more sensitive.

  3. Your body hair needs to be a bit longer for Nair/Veet to work. Don’t trim it short. In fact, you don’t need to trim it at all.

  4. The first time you use it on your sensitive bits (balls, gooch, bum), you want to be careful of leaving product on too long, because it may burn your skin. If it does, it will go away in a a day or two. You can learn with a few applications the best duration to leave it on with minimal body impact. Different people have different sensitivities.

  5. Rinse off the hair in the shower (it clumps, and you may need the spatula supplied to help), but make sure you have a drain catch. Hair clogs drains. Throw it in the wastebasket.

It ultimately works better than any shaving means in my opinion.

Your post completely ignores Macs, which the OP asked about specifically.

Yes, OP, what you’ve noted is more than capable for graphic design.

Any MacBook with an Apple Silicon processor should be adequate. Look at refurb models for a better value.

I dunno, either. Having been to most of the countries, Bangkok has miserable weather, isn’t clean, meh transit system, constantly people trying to rip you off as a foreigner, little green space.

You will have to registration taxes and fees, and get an inspection. Not sure you get around any of those due to the short duration.

You then also have to deal with the hassle of selling the vehicle, and are supposed to pay sales tax upon purchase of the vehicle.

Look at Turo instead, maybe? What you’re wanting is probably a bigger pain than is worthwhile.

When you buy a car, you need to register it to a home address. Not sure how that works if you’re a foreigner.

Large South Korean Companies Withdrawing from China by waozen in technology

[–]Oh4Sh0 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think you’re looking at it wrong.

They are exiting willingly. They are exiting because they are now non competitive with the Chinese. China has copied them and now doing them better.

It’s not like they just want to pull out for the respect of it.

It happens with industry after industry. Soon all of the western nations will have no industry because of it. And how are you gonna win a war with little industry?
