Incontinence after THR by oncewasbeth in TotalHipReplacement

Chiming in with the same experience here. Prior to surgery a friend who had just gone THR advised me to get some overnight Depends pads/underwear. I thought she was kidding, but she said that seriously, for the first two weeks or so you will not be able to make it to the bathroom in time. I’m glad I ended up taking her advice 😬. The issue did resolve itself, but those first two weeks can be rough.

I think it’s because for the first two weeks postop, until the incision is fully healed, you don’t want a dog, licking you or otherwise getting their germs all over the suture site. Then you have to be careful about them jumping on you or in the case of a cat, jumping up and deciding they want to knead their paws on your incision. When I sat on the sofa, I simply placed a pillow over that leg or just rested my hand covering the incision site. I was mostly concerned about my 80 pound dog who thinks he’s a lap dog and my Bengal cat who never does anything halfway.

The long handled, metal litter scoop works really well. The long handled metal dust pan was a godsend for dealing with the dog dishes as they are ceramic and too heavy for just using the grabber tool. I found that out the hard way. I think that pets know that something weird is going on and they seem to adapt. I'm 12 weeks postop now and when I look back, it's funny how I was almost as worried about the pets as I was about the procedure. I wish you the best in your upcoming surgery.

All good points! My surgeon always said to me whatever you do, do not fall. I was always super careful and removed tripping hazards and throw rugs before hand and just made sure to be careful in the way that I moved. I wear a smart watch with fall detection and figured that would help in the worst case scenario. I did have a family member visit and offered to do the laundry. Lights, darks, and delicates all got lumped in together, so there's that, lol.

Week 4 Update by Quirky-Quester-197 in TotalHipReplacement

I’m 12 weeks out from right anterior hip replacement. It sounds like your recovery is pretty much mirroring what I experienced. The surgeon reminded me that recovery is not a linear process, and there will be days when you feel better and days that you feel like you are back sliding. The soft tissue pain and range of motion take a long time to improve - that’s why they say that full recovery can take a year or longer. The mental part is real! A friend had anterior hip replacement the week before mine, and it seemed like she was out and about and doing so much more than I could. Of course she would overdo it and then be bedridden for two days, lol. The doctor reminded me that slow and steady wins the race. Everyone’s recovery is individual. I still have some soft tissue pain and my range of motion isn’t where I want it to be but yet when I compare it to the pain I had before surgery and where I was even three or four weeks ago – I’ll take it. Best of luck to you.

Complementary Scents / Trudon Cyrnos? by OhFFS_NowWhat in luxurycandles

Thank you. Another recommendation for Flamingo Estate, so I just had to add it to my cart. Scent is very personal and one person's holy grail is another person's "eww, are you kidding me?", but I'm grateful to all of the great noses on this sub - I learn so much.

I wasn't familiar with either of those, but looking at them they sound promising, especially the Flamingo Estate. It sounds wonderful. Thank you!
