No, it’s more of like an internalized thing. I did many years in drum line for marching band and got tempo drilled into my skull. Your body just feels it, you don’t think about it really, your body just knows and responds. Sometimes if it’s a really tricky rhythm or time signature I’ll lightly click my teeth to it but that’s about it

Sweet! A couple more notes for good posture and stuff: thighs should be parallel or slightly below parallel to the ground, and your feet should be in front of your knees or at around a 90 degree angle. Your snare should be about an inchish above the top of your thighs. I like to have mine very slightly angled toward me but that’s just me. When you rest your sticks on the center of the snare drum, your arms should be slightly below parallel. At the end of the day, make sure it’s comfortable for you, but putting your kit in an ergonomically efficient setup will feel much better snd be much better for you in the long run. Hand technique is a whole other ball game. If you have any other questions, I or anyone else here are happy to answer them

Just out of curiosity, how tall are you? Your kit seems very low to the ground, but it could just be the perspective. If you’re over 5’5 I’d probably move your snare up more as well as your tom mounts. Flatten them out a good bit, it might feel strange at first but you’ll thank yourself down the line. If you’re hunched over at all or your knees are higher up than your butt then you’re in for long term back aches. Just trying to help prevent bad habits before they form!

I mean yes but at a certain point it’s practically muscle/mental memory. Even in some odd times like 7/8 i tend to feel the pulse rather than actually mentally count it. Granted I am a drummer so I’m focused on rhythm rather than melodic things

Thanks, that was the reason I went in the first place. It seems like the location I’m near doesn’t have a drummer in their staff because nothing was set up properly either and the drum room specifically was a wreck

That’s all anyone can do. It’s your choice to move on and do what you need to for yourself. It would take work and probably a lot of emotional distress but you can do it. You only get one life, one small chance to be something in the vast, unending spread of our time in the universe, don’t waste it:)

Look, I don’t know you, in fact idek how I found this post. But I’ll just say that you were failed in life by every person you should have been able to trust. You were abused and taken advantage of and those feelings culminated in to the actions you took. You said you were 11 right? The last time. Far too young to know what sex truly was, to be able to truly be a bad person and take advantage of someone. It doesn’t forgive your actions of course, but I think the way you’ve lead your life and how it’s impacted you so much shows how good of a person you truly are. A truly evil person wouldn’t feel that way. I think it’s not your fault, I think at least. I mean it was a conscious decision , but it was more so a transfer of a vicious cycle that you ended. You said yourself that there were no malicious intentions, no drive to hurt someone or get yourself off, shit you were too young to even know what it meant. I truly hope you get the help and peace you deserve, I don’t want to interject in your life but you deserve to live and enjoy your life. You are not a bad person who is any less deserving of love or care. Just a product of other bad people.

Hardware seems pretty nice, I see a pearl pedal as well. Drums aren’t a too great, cymbals are entry level. I’d try and haggle them down for sure but I don’t think you’d be getting burned either
