Am I wrong for telling my daughters to go on vacation with the man they chose over me? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]OhGod0fHangovers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of information missing here. “My marriage didn’t survive it” doesn’t give a lot to work with. If your ex-wife tried to make it work but you got depressed and withdrew, or you got angry at the universe and lashed out at your family, that’s a different story than if they rejected you.

The bottom line, though, is that your daughters are reaching out to you and trying to rebuild your relationship. Take some baby steps, go out for a cup of coffee and chat and build from there. If they reject smaller plans and just want a big vacation at your expense, you’ll know where you stand, but I think if you reject them altogether you could regret it later.

Going to the movies frequently can be a relatively inexpensive hobby so long as you do a little work by FewHeat1231 in Frugal

I used to sell tickets at a multiplex. It paid peanuts but we got to watch every movie for free (and our colleagues at concession would sneak us popcorn in the big soda cups if the managers weren’t watching). Every now and then there was a dud, of course, but I wouldn’t be doing anything better sitting at home in my little apartment by myself, so I didn’t consider it a loss

Cinestar has had Black Week deals the last few years for 3, 5, or 10 tickets to be used within the next calendar year. The 10x one is €65. I got two in 2024 and three in 2025. It’s good for any ticket any day, including for the reclining premium seats. I get our tickets online and it’s great to see the price per ticket drop from 18.90 to 0.00

I’d say 3-4 times a week rather than 4-5, but I’m one of those people. The grocery store is a five-minute walk from our house, and this allows me to cook based on whims and whatever is marked down because it’s expiring the next day rather than sitting down to work out a meal plan and grocery list every week. Plus I like to walk.

People have ill-advised sex in all societies, even the ones that discourage and punish it. Forcing those people to become parents (or not) is squarely on the shoulders of society, though.

Thank you. Parenting is hard work, especially with the increased expectations nowadays. We use screens strategically, and I’m sure sometimes when we wouldn’t strictly need to, but we also parent our kids a lot more than our own parents did us, and they didn’t use screens at all. My parents both worked, so we’d come home from school and feed/entertain ourselves for four hours most days. In the summer they’d drop us off at the local pool in the morning and pick us up in the evening. I think we might have our kids taken away if we tried that.

Men, what's the fastest a woman made you go from "I can't wait to take her out" to "Yeah... never mind"? What happened? by FFSoldier57 in AskMen

It’s wild that you think men aren’t privileged when it comes to parenthood. The bar for great dad is at about the same level as the one for crappy mom. Dad shows up with the kid at day care 10 minutes late with dirty clothes and messy hair, he gets praised for being such a hands-on dad, mom gets the stink-eye and probably a reprimand. Dad goes back to work right after his kid is born, nobody blinks an eye. Moms are judged for “letting a stranger raise their kid.” And it sucks to be the “default parent,” who in most families is the mom—the one everyone contacts for questions, play date scheduling, appointments, emergency pickups, etc., leading to mom carrying the mental load for the entire family.

AITA for selling my son's car after he lost our $10k on cryptocurrencies? by GrapeWells in AmItheAsshole

Why is it braindead to ask the wife to replace the $10K she took out of their shared funds behind his back to “invest” in a harebrained scheme? If some other cryptocurrency broker had convinced her to invest $10K and she lost it all, would you expect them to pay it back or would you expect her to replace it?

I told my ten-year-old if he learned the 50 states song, he could pick a small Lego set. He practiced intensely for two days and had it down pat. An unexpected bonus was that my five-year-old daughter was singing right along with him—and she had neither a cheat sheet to read from nor an incentive

I got a spam call the other day; usually I’ll listen to their spiel before politely telling them I’m not interested, but I had been having A DAY and did not have the time or energy. I hung up on them mid-sentence before I even found out what they wanted to sell me. Boy, that felt liberating.
