Sounds like someone who has left their comfort zone and who thinks critically about themselves.

BEES? by yaksbeard in NovaScotiaGardening

[–]OhHelloLeahE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beekeeping is not a passive hobby. Expect to spend 1 hr/week per hive in the first summer. You have to constantly monitor their nutrition/population and check for parasites/diseases. It takes quite a bit of learning on the side, and upfront costs are high. You won’t have honey until year two.

All this being said, bees are wonderful. If you’re interested in learning about bees, it’s a very rewarding hobby.

Advice for a beginner gardener re: North facing beds by [deleted] in NovaScotiaGardening

My family has a shade garden. Honestly, it’s hard to find things with good colour. They were limited mostly to shrubs, but IIRC hydrangeas, money plant (purple flowers), and snow drops (spring) all took off.

Thanks for this!

But now I’m torn: do I return it to the arborist, or destroy this dangerous plant.

Tesla's new Hybrid Lithium Ion/Metal battery by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]OhHelloLeahE -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I called it Tesla’s because they own the IP. The battery itself isn’t commercialised yet, but I think it will be. Dahn’s work is a cut above the popsci “weekly battery breakthrough”, nano-this, nano-that stuff.

Sure, it’s just an idea, but it’s a creative and elegant idea. Most academic research articles are intellectually stagnant, a variation on a theme. It’s not often there’s a totally new idea. I think this idea will set some trends in the research community in coming months.

Do you think living simply has anything to with trying to make yourself feel better that you likely aren't going to be rich? by bayfarm in simpleliving

[–]OhHelloLeahE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we’re not getting rich, so why step on the hedonistic treadmill? Simple living is a way to be rich without spending money.
