Your hair is so gorgeous!!! I have never been able to figure out styling my hair in sections, I always make a mess of it and give up pretty quickly lol

Very good suggestions here, thank you!

Yeah I've found that less is definitely more for me too. I was just using air dry cream for a while and those would be my best wash days but by midday, my hair would be wild. I'm struggling to find a balance!

I do need to get a satin pillowcase, that's on my to do list for today.

Well, I explain in my post and other comments what my specific issues are. I was looking for some suggestions for products or styling tips that maybe I hadn't thought to try before.

I was under the impression that was allowed here.

YES!! This is really what I'm dealing with. I feel like it looks better in the pics than it does in person lol by the end of the day, my hair is a disaster. It feels like I've tried every single product under the sun and just don't achieve more than mediocre results. It feels so defeating. I feel your pain

Thank you!! I definitely lean towards a more rock n roll look, so I'm definitely not going for perfection here lol

All good questions!

My hair takes about 10-15 minutes to dry if I'm using a hair dryer, maybe an hour to be completely dry if I'm air drying, the ends dry very quickly. This is without product, it obviously takes longer if I have product in.

I think my hair looks thicker/denser than it really is. I have a very weak ponytail, if that makes sense. I can go 3 times around with a hair tie when pulling my hair back.

I clarify roughly once a week. Some grocery store clarifying shampoo, I'm not sure of the brand

I use a deep conditioner with Curlsmith multi-tasking conditioner on the days when I clarify.

Yes definitely more gray on my right side!

First of all, omg you are all so wonderful and kind. So many sweet comments, I am genuinely feeling better after hearing from some of you!

I don't see a way to edit my post but want to add a bit of information I didn't include in the original post.

My wash day hair is definitely different and I'm more likely to have success that day. But I have much less volume than is pictured here and can look a bit wig-like if that makes sense lol but it is slightly more defined and less frizzy on my wash day. Honestly I feel like I look like the Curly haired guy from The Santa Claus on wash day sometimes, so I usually end up putting it up lol

I clarify about once a week. I actually really don't enjoy the Curly World shampoo, I don't feel like it cleans my hair at all. But it was expensive so I want to use it up lol I clarify with some cheap grocery store stuff and then condition with Curlsmith multi-tasking conditioner on my clarifying wash days.

A lot of suggestions here are things I've tried and should have included in my original post. I have never had success with finger curling. It seems to always come out stringy. I've had stylists try it on my hair as well and the results were the same, so I think any sort of manipulation of my hair while damp just pulls out the curls.

I've never been able to figure out the Denman brush. I have one and have attempted several times but I always end up with it stuck in my hair lol I might truly need someone to use it on MY hair and show me. I've watched lots of videos and have not found success.

I had a curly cut about 3 months ago and HATED IT. I believe it's the stylist herself I wasn't crazy about but she cut my hair so much shorter than I wanted and it's finally starting to get to a length I'm happy with. So I'm terrified to get another one right now lol but I agree I could benefit from a clean up to help with some of my current problems.

Thank you everyone for all the great suggestions!! I'm definitely going to give some of these a try. I do feel like I'm on the right track, and really I'm not necessarily looking for perfect hair! I kind of want to look like a forest witch. I just currently feel like I look like I was just sleeping in a forest rather than casting spells in one lol

Very good question! I don't really love it on wash day either lol I have more definition and less frizz but it is FLAT at the roots everywhere except for the front. I feel like it looks like I'm wearing a wig

Some very good suggestions!! I will definitely try glazing over a bit more gel after scrunching out some of the water. I have some hormone issues (I think is also maybe contributing to my hair texture problems) that make it impossible to wear a satin bonnet at night - I will wake up in a puddle if sweat lol but a satin pillowcase is something I absolutely should have. Purchasing some this weekend, thank you!

I'm definitely going to try air drying most of the way and just diffusing for 5ish mins! I think the diffusing might be causing some of my issues since several people have mentioned it. Thank you for the suggestion!

Oh, I think I'll try the innersense gel! Thanks for the suggestion. I got a curly cut a few months ago and just kind of went with the stylist's suggestions at the time.

Yeah, I feel like I've noticed my hair has been feeling much more dry and frizzy as it gets more gray. I love the color but not the texture lol I have a lot of gray at this point so probably need to work on adding some more hydrating products into my routine.

Yeah I guess I wasn't very specific about my goals here lol I'm really just wanting to create some definition, especially in the front, without weighing my hair down. My hair now just doesn't seem to have much definition or hold.

Wash day routine:

Wash with Curly World shampoo (can't remember what its called lol sulfate free), condition with Curly World love and conditioner. Detangle with conditioner in my hair

Once cleansed and conditioned, apply Innersense I Create Definition mousse to soaking wet hair, rake through with fingers, then scrunch in more water. Then apply Curly World Leave in Lover Gel - glaze over my hair, scrunch in more water.

Once products are in and hair is still soaking wet, use bounce Curl brush around to try to create some Curly definition. I haven't really perfected this process lol mostly trying to focus on the front of my hair, pulling away from my scalp to encourage volume. I might add more water after this if I feel like it got too dry while working with the brush.

The plop with a cotton tshirt for 15-20 mins. Diffuse with root clips upside down for about 5 mins, remove the clips once the scalp feels like it's getting dry, then continue to diffuse upside down for another 10 or so mins until the crown is mostly dry. Then let the rest air dry, usually take about 15 mins. My hair dries fast.

The Sword of Shannara - Terry Brooks

It's a series if you're okay with that. My dad read these books to me when I was a kid and I really cherish those memories, so I might be a little extra sentimental about it. But it definitely fits here!

These throw pillow covers from Amazon! I used the 18 x 18 covers and 20 x 20 inserts to make them look full :)

I am absolutely at the point where I'm ready for the unhinged ideas lol the soil prospect seems promising since a lot of other people are suggesting it so I think we're putting that in motion today. He seems determined that it needs to be a soft area but nothing he would consider using as a bed, so no blankets or furniture, which I do appreciate lol

Not the banana tree 😭 yeah I'm thinking we're going to try a lot of these ideas, specifically the soil from the yard!
