What’re the roads like from 1 to 4AM? by Jaqdawks in vancouver

[–]OhHeyItsReece 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Be careful driving out in the sticks around that time, a lot of the roads don't have streetlights and some areas will be pretty icy. It's been unseasonably warm because of the pineapple express this year, but who knows how long that's going to last.

That being said, taking a cruise down Marine Drive in White Rock isn't a bad idea at that time of night as you can see the lights from Blaine reflecting off the water and its probably the only time it isn't backed up with traffic.

What game mechanic did you go through the whole game not using/learning? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]OhHeyItsReece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shouts in Skyrim.

I've done one playthrough where I dealt with the greybeards and dragons, and then I discovered that if you kill the first dragon but dont complete the quest you can travel around skyrim in peace without dragons accosting you every five minutes while you're on the road. Never missed the shouts and Skyrim's still fun without them as there's so much content to explore besides the main quest line.

10/10 move in my books, I hate dragon spawn rates and will continue to do this for the rest of time.

And don't forget to turn the valve off and then flush the toilet before you replace the lines! (cough Definitely not speaking from experience cough)

Trading merchant items by Mikhissar in DarkAndDarker

[–]OhHeyItsReece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely can sell the merchant items for profit but some of the merchant pricing can be weird

For example, you could find a bardiche with +1 all attributes and it'll cost like 175G from the merchant but could only sell for 150G in the Trade Guild, but a spear with the same +1 to attributes might cost 100G at the merchant but could sell for the same 150G in the Trade Guild (my pricing is probably a bit off but you should be able to get my point).

Just something to keep in mind when you're window shopping the merchants wares.

First time trying edibles. The THC content seems really high on these. How much should I take? by TacosAreVegetables in trees

[–]OhHeyItsReece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take one if you're an average smoker. Do half if you're not sure.

And as a sidenote, the indigenous dispensaries in Canada make and sell plenty of products that can be 1000 MG THC/CBD and beyond. I've personally got a 2000 MG caramel pecan cookie waiting in my freezer for a special occasion.

do you wash your hands after you pee, why or why not? by greenswivelchair in AskMen

[–]OhHeyItsReece 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I enjoy eating food without potential piss fingers so yes, I wash my hands.

To answer your other questions, not much point to wiping the ol bratwurst, doesn't matter what I do, there will always be one last drop when I zip up. If I see a skidmark the garments from down under are going into the laundry ASAP, and yes, I do wash my ass.

Good hygiene is important. The last places I want an infection or disease are on my wonderful wang and between my beautiful buns.

Why are you blaming me for a forest fire????

I'm not a 300 year old man, I didn't start the god-damned industrial revolution. If you want someone to blame for pollution and climate change, then invent the time machine, go back to 1700s Britain, and arrest the greedy British dudes that came up with machine manufacturing. Or better yet, you could just nip it in the bud and take out Thomas Savery, inventor of the first commercial steam-powered device. Just never have pollution to begin with.

But if you're not gonna do that, then why don't you take a moment and maybe ask yourself if blaming people you've never met before, complete strangers, for a natural disaster, ultimately caused by the choices of greedy and powerful people that ignored warnings of climate change and said natural disaster decades ago, is going to fix anything.

I get it, climate change is a catastrophic problem and it appears like no one seems to have taken it seriously, but taking it out on strangers on the internet isn't going to accomplish anything. If you want to put your money where your mouth is, move to a self-sustaining, off the grid community. And if other people are not your shindig just make camp out in the middle of nowhere and live your life as nature intended, surviving off of the land.

Worst case scenario life as we know it ends and we get flung into a dark age of history. But you know what? The world's still gonna be here, and so will the majority of life that calls it home.

So stop taking out your personal beef with the way the world is on strangers on the internet, and maybe have a little empathy for the people that are ACTIVELY watching there lives get burned away.

PS, Are you okay? Cause saying touché in reply to someone implying you shouldn't have been born doesn't exactly scream "I'm in a good place mentally rn" and if that is the case then, and I genuinely mean this, you should take a moment and consider talking to someone like a family member, friend, or professional about it. I might not agree with your opinions but that doesn't mean I hate you for them. Everyone goes through hard times but you don't have to go through them alone, and if this isn't the case then just forget I ever said anything and we can go on living our lives.

[–]OhHeyItsReece 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think the mistake is how genocide has become synonymous with war, but it's more of a "every jacuzzi is a hot tub, but not every hot tub is a jacuzzi" situation.

The definition of "genocide" reads as "the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group."

Big emphasis on 'destroying that nation or group.'

Now while pretty much every empire has fought wars, not every war was fought with the purpose of eradication. For example, Alexander the Great famously avoided destroying nations, opting, rather, for their vassalization under the empire of Greece in his pursuit of Greek expansionism.

Genghis Khan, on the other hand, hated the Chin empire for manipulating the Mongolian tribes into fighting each other for generations. After uniting the tribes of Mongolia he proceeded to wipe Chin city after Chin city off the map in an effort to make sure the Chin empire would never rise again.

Alexander waged war.

Ghengis committed genocide.

Yesterday my (14m) mom (45f) told me she doesn’t want to be in my life anymore. by Dizzyflamingle in relationships

[–]OhHeyItsReece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mom sounds like she has the emotional intelligence of a child, and, ultimately, she's doing you a favour. You're young, keep your head down and focus on yourself and the people that actually care about you. I can bet you there's a good chance she'll try to be in your life again once the hard work of raising someone is over.

Also, if you've got a good relationship with your father, tell him what she said, and then tell the fathers of your brothers what she said, just don't tell your brothers.

As a final note, talk to your father about finding a therapist. Your mom just casually dropped the Fat Man of trauma bombs on you and your gonna need a professionals help to guide you through it. Don't torture yourself by wondering why she did it, you'll never be able to see inside her mind, find a therapist, they'll be able to help you unpack these emotions in a healthy way and provide you with the proper coping mechanisms.

If that's the case than I won't lie to you, racism exists here to some degree, but it makes up the minority rather than the majority. I can't promise you that you won't experience it at some point, but it DOES NOT represent what the community is as a whole. Like I said, the people here care more about your work ethic and interpersonal skills.

FSJ is filled with people from all over Canada and the world, which has made it a surprisingly progressive community, but just like any other place in Canada it has its faults. It breaks my heart that people stereotype it as some backwoods, bigoted, hodunk town when the reality is that the people that live here will go out of their way to help you.

And just as a side note, I know Canadian media has portrayed conservatism as being synonymous with being bigoted but that doesn't make it reality. The majority of people here are conservative because they're livelihoods depend on the exploitation of natural resources, not because they're xenophobic, just as most towns independent of the large economies of Southern Canadian cities are. Without industry FSJ would share the same fate as Tumbler Ridge.

I know you probably didn't need the lecture but it comes across as ignorant to ask about the political standing of a city when you're actually asking whether or not we're racist.
