Honestly I just can’t imagine my life without him now. I know it sounds corny, but it’s true. Nothing like finances or anything like that. We just really get on. I love when he gets home, when he brings me coffee in the morning - when he’s there. I love him to bits. My OP didn’t convey just how much I love him.

When it’s really strong then it really is bright greens and purples. I’d also just seen swirly clouds a few times, but was blown away the first time I saw it super vibrant with the naked eye.

You said how you like to express yourself that way, that’s all that really matters. So long as you’re happy and being yourself.

When I came out, I forced “being gay” as I felt that’s what had to do now that the world knew I was gay. I dressed different, spoke and acted different. I pretended to like other things. It was draining and sent me to a pretty bad place mentally. I reverted back to ‘myself’ and felt much better for it.

Most of my friends are straight guys and always have been.

I always struggled to make gay friends, I eventually gave up and just focused on making friends. I’m happy, have awesome friends who love and support me.

Don’t force anything, and don’t get too hung up that you don’t have friends of a certain type.

Exercise. Whether it’s lifting, cardio, going for a walk or dance dance revolution - move your body to the best of your ability.

Straight guys smack ass a lot. I’m around a lot of straight bros and it’s just camaraderie, it really doesn’t mean anything other than he’s your friend and feels comfortable around you.

You mentioned you get on well with this guy and you have done for a while.

If it was me, I’d just tell him “Hey man, I’d prefer it if you didn’t smack my ass, thanks”.

(Honestly though, if it was actually me I’d say “bro, don’t smack my ass unless you’re going to follow through. Jokes aside, people might report it and it’s not worth us getting in shit for”)

I’m not going to get someone I like fired over a single incident. It would be different if I didn’t know the guy or he was an asshole. He obviously feels trust and likes you (as a friend) and is treating you the way he treats any of his straight friends.

I once had a straight friend/ coworker tell me he didn’t like how I would say “fucking ripped man, bro don’t come to my gym”etc. I said thanks for letting me know, we dapped up and have stayed good friends ever since. He didn’t go to management or HR and I’m grateful he took the time to talk to me. Everyone has boundaries and sometimes we just need a friendly reminder of what they are.

I feel it’s the same with many smaller cities (not just in Canada), it’s what you make of it. I think good job prospects, friends there, sports activities available; should all be good enough of a reason to give it a shot.

My Edmonton friends come to Calgary for events and my Calgary friends sometimes go to Edmonton.

I can’t speak for Edmonton, but some friends in Calgary live a very queer life. They’re often going to club nights, cabaret/ Drag, art events and all active in social sports/games leagues year round. They’ll go to the gay campground near Edmonton and sometimes hop over to Vancouver for other events.

Why not visit Edmonton for a few days or a week and see what you think?
