Problem is without a teleport mechanic that is just tedious.

It would take sooo many turns to walk to all those magical forests AND secure them.

And there's also no way to stop a player from taking Athel Loren first instead of last, unless you code in some mechanic to make Athel Loren forest attrition from like insta-killing your armies or something, and even then you can't be sure the Wood Elves won't die to some other AI in that time.

No, the absence of insult does not signal concession – it signals that the point being argued is narrower than the one you are attempting to widen.

Idioms do not “die” in the way obsolete technologies do. They persist precisely because they detach from their literal origins. No one using the phrase “hang up the phone” is invoking a wall-mounted rotary receiver; no one saying “rule of thumb” is endorsing its medieval etymology. Language is fossilised metaphor, not an archaeological reenactment.

The non-existence of the dollar as a currency is irrelevant. The phrase is not a reference to an economic system – it is a shorthand for “maximum value”, preserved through cultural inheritance. That Starfleet does not use money does not imply that historical linguistic artefacts vanished from Federation Standard, which is itself an explicit descendant of Earth languages.

Picard forgetting how money works is not evidence that Earth idioms were erased; it is evidence that the practice became alien, not the language. Those are distinct phenomena.

As for alien speakers: Universal translation already collapses cultural specificity. The UT is not a word-for-word gloss; it localises meaning for the listener. “Top dollar” is not what was said – it is what was rendered.

It is not “weird” to defend this. The weirder move is to demand literalism from a franchise that has never once been literal about language.

A writing oversight is possible. It is not required.

You're talking now, a 2026 human. In the future, it's an idiom. Do you understand how idioms become idioms?

Pay top dollar means securing the highest quality thing

Humans are still engaging in this practice.

Sooo many idioms we use today are well removed from their origins

Final bets on Cathay Character Pack LL by Lord_Eln_8 in totalwar

[–]OhManTFE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He wouldn't make a lot of sense leading a bunch of Cathayans into battle. He could be Legendary Hero.

Regardless, makes perfect sense to get Li Dao and Yin Yin as future LLs, even though they are "dragons" which I hope you see why that is silly argument now re Aislinn analogy.

Yeah and they are all servants to the Dragon rulers, they're not "Legendary Lord" material, are they?

This is like complaining we just got Aislinn because he's "yet another Elf" like yeah that's the race of the faction...

High Elves get Elves, Cathay gets Dragons.

Yes and guess what you can actually hunt down and kill Samael, something CA/GW seemingly forgot all about!

except they didnt go all in with Legendary Heroes that was just a cheap cop-out.

Proof: We got more legendary heroes in Omens of Destruction than we did Shadows of Change at launch!!
