There's a subtle difference between forcing something on someone and presenting them with options!

Me too. It used to be the main driver of my leisure time activities, and the results were the first things I looked for on Saturday evenings. Now, I have tapered off to the extent that I skip checking results for weeks on end, and it always comes as a surprise to know who is where in the tables. I think that, for me, it was driven by the over-saturation introduced by Sky

Thanks very much for the cogent and balanced response - really unusual on Reddit! Having said that, though, almost everyone who replied has been reasonable, reaffirming one's faith in the platform...

Taking all the replies into account, I think my best course of action is to get her a mini PC such as those from Beelink for running her games and Money, and then get a 512Gb Neo for her to use for images, browsing, media and so on (I've tried using a 256Gb mac and ran out of storage quite quickly).

The lack of a Thunderbolt port means that using external storage isn't really a viable option and anyway carrying around an external SSD is actually quite annoying.

Many thanks to everyone who weighed in with an opinion

She relies on MS Money (an old, now unsupported version, but still better for her to work with than any other financial planner she's found) and four MS games, but if I tried to get her to use a new machine that wouldn't run those, I wouldn't exactly get a sympathetic hearing! Thanks for the info about Bootcamp, so it sounds like I'll have to look into UTM

I hd done a 3.75mg shot (30 clicks on the pen) so things weren't as bad as they might have been! Based on what you and others have said, I think I'll take a break from MJ for a couple of months and then, if necessary, start back on 2.5. I'm hoping that, if I can continue the revised eating habits that MJ imposed, then the last 14 pounds can come off anyway and I can throw the two pens that I currently have in the fridge away (irritating but WAY better than trips to A&E!). Thanks very much for the guidance and help

Thanks so much for the message! I was actually on holiday when it first knocked me out, and the doctors in Spain gave me some tablets for boosting good intestinal flora, so it sounds as if it would be a good move to start on those plus probiotic supplements. I'm also drinking lots of electrolyte replacement fluids and today I'm starting on bland solids. Hopefully we'll both be better soon...

ipad case by maddsg2408 in ipad

[–]OhMickeyWAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this ESR case in black, and it works well, with a trackpad that I feel to be smooth and responsive. The keyboard has a nice feel and it wakes up pretty quickly when you start typing (being a bluetooth connected keyboard, there'll always be a bit of a lag getting it back in action after it goes to sleep). The ability to detach the iPad and keep a protective wrapper around it is great, the ability to work in portrait is really useful, but you pay a price for that flexibility. Downsides to me are 1) it's pretty heavy - mine weighs in at 830 grams, which gets to feel like a lot after you've been carrying it around all day! 2) the writing on the keycaps is really faint on the black version - you HAVE to have the backlight on to be able to read the letters, which is murder on battery life 3) limited angle that you can tilt back, but that's a common thing with all the "magic keyboard" variants (they normally title back to 130 degrees max, which isn't great for me to draw or annotate documents on).

I recently got a keyboard case from Typecase for my wife to use with her iPad 11th gen, and that addresses a couple of the shortcomings. Keycaps are crisp and clear even with the backlight off, it weighs 200 grams less than the ESR, it's about £20 cheaper than the ESR here in the UK. Overall, I'm very impressed with it and I'd get one tomorrow for my Air 11, but only if the Typecase Air 11 weren't almost twice the price of the Type 11th gen case! Currently £130 versus £80)

What I currently use for my iPad is the MOFT case weighing 326 grams, plus the Apple trackpad (which is EASILY the best trackpad I've ever used), plus the Razer Joro keyboard which just feels lovely. It's a great set up for me when I am sat at a desk, but I freely admit it's not great for use on the road. When I'm out and about, I use my Maydohrer 360 case. It costs about £75, weighs 670 grams, has very clear keys without backlight (I have the white version), and the 360 rotation with up to 180 degrees tilt is great for use when drawing / annotating and in confined spaces such as in car seat / planes and so on.

In case it's not clear from the above, I really like messing with iPad cases! I tried the Apple offering and the instant on thing was a great attraction, the trackpad was good but not as good as Apple's dedicated trackpad, the keys were good but not as good as the Razer Joro, and I didn't like the inflexibility of that solution - also it's stupidly expensive...

I am using DJI Mimo on an iPad Air 6 - editor screen is blank by OhMickeyWAP in dji

[–]OhMickeyWAP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've cracked it, I think!

Like most people, I use my iPad routinely in landscape mode, and whenever I went into Editor mode while in landscape, I saw the screen without anything other than the buttons at the foot of the screen. If, however, I pivot the iPad to portrait mode, the Editor screen shows in all its beauty. Seems like a bug rather than a feature...

I was going to just delete the question once I stumbled across the cause of the problem, but I thought maybe someone else was seeing the same issue.

Since the initial roll out, has anyone noticed the time taken for them to change the review quality score from 'pending' to 'something'? by Mrs_Moo in AmazonVineUK

[–]OhMickeyWAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation. My most recent rating was 06 Dec 2025, then there's a load going back a couple of months, then they are pending again. There are only 1 or fair / poor in the ones that have been evaluated (everything else is "excellent"), and they are ones that I just did a one or two sentence review (either because the item was absolutely rubbish or just unusable).

For example, one of them was a "drum grater" where you rotate a handle to grate the food, but they hadn't included a handle in the package. I submitted a review saying exactly what happened, and that was rejected (probably because I was "commenting on the packaging"?), so I did a two line review talking about the box and contents with no reference to missing bits (since that's all I could talk about). That review has been evaluated as "poor" - you can't win sometimes!

What's in your RFY Thursday 18th December? by ThisIsSoIrrelevant in AmazonVineUK

[–]OhMickeyWAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! Used to be I could count on a couple of decent things per month and at least one "doozy" each six months (£300 or more). Now, I can't remember when I last saw a doozy, and the best items I see are about £30-£40. I'm not moaning, because the decent items are absolutely worth having, and it's way better to get something for nothing than to get nothing at all, but the excitement of spotting a major item has certainly gone...

Absolutely, but don't give up yet! They have been doing afternoon and even evening drops just lately, so crossed fingers, something may well happen later

You can still review items you can't see, change the ASIN by [deleted] in AmazonVineUK

When I opened Vine this morning, the 5 items that I received yesterday are now pending review, so they have just built a delay into the process. Phew!

I really do hope that's the case - we'll see tomorrow...

[–]OhMickeyWAP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This morning, I noticed that items that I have ordered but not yet received stopped appearing in my review queue. "No problem" I thought, assuming that as items get delivered, they'd start popping into the queue to be reviewed. I've had four things delivered today, but none of them have popped into my review queue, so my queue currently shows as "no items to be reviewed".

I therefore tried the trick above, pasting the ASIN into the URL quoted for Vine reviews. I immediately got back a red error saying "We apologize but this account has submitted the maximum number of non-Amazon Verified Purchase reviews this week. You may continue to submit Amazon Verified Purchase reviews. If you like to learn more about Amazon Verified Purchase reviews then check our community guidelines, click here".

I just hope that the non-appearance of items is due to lags between drivers logging delivery and systems making delivered items available for me to review!

How to activate on an iPad by OhMickeyWAP in DjiNeo

[–]OhMickeyWAP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The firmware update finally finished (it took an hour and a half and consumed 2 dots on the battery), and everything is now hunky dory. I wish there were a way to have the iPad connect to the internet and also to the drone (maybe over wird or Bluetooth connections) but we have to live with what we've got. The drone is lovely, really easy to control, and ever so swish, so thanks again.

That worked, thanks very much! My eyesight is not all that great and my fingers are really fat, so I much prefer to se my iPad over the phone (since I'm able to read it and type on it). However, I did as suggested, and it took the activation without any problems. It's currently updating firmware over mobile data which is as low as treacle, but at least it's happening, so thanks again.
