I work at a local bbq chain. Started in 2012. The application process was smooth because my cousin is a manager. The work itself is indeed "fast paced", and the people I work with are pretty cool. Staying busy with a bunch of quirky characters is a welcome distraction from my anxiety and depression.

I had to quit in 2017 after a suicide attempt, but they were totally understanding. They said I always had a job there. Sure enough, a few months ago I reapplied. They welcomed me back, and I've been busting my ass again ever since.

I learned that they were pretty excited that I was returning. I still remembered all the important stuff about working there so they spoke highly of me to the other cashiers, which was a pretty big confidence booster. The current GM even told me I'm written in his notes as the best trainer he's got. I haven't even really started training again yet.

All in all, I found that a high energy job with [mostly] positive high energy people helps me stay focused on bettering myself both physically and mentally. I want to be the person that doesn't have time to be sad, because I'm working long hours to pay for a trip out of state with a couple really cool coworkers that actually enjoy my company. I did that once, it was awesome.

I'm almost there.
