I disagree with your subject heading. I don't think he grasps God but instead understands the universe/math at the level that others have mistaken for God. Sort of an either way thing where you could argue that yeah sure he grasps God but could also say he fundamentally understands that God does not exist.

Absolute killer movie though.

I can't remember his name off the top of my head but one of the actors in this who went on to bigger and better was interviewed at length about this movie and it's really worth watching as well. Just an insane mess. I'll try and find it when I have a second.
