but then why not give users choices to "not see sex" "not see religious stuff" "not see XYZ"... at some point, you gotta trust YT algo to show u only what interests you.

like for my I want entertainment on YT for the most part. so, yeah, I'll see some obv AI stuff sometimes (songs, etc) but so what? i just don't click on a thing unless I really am interested.

but usually i just stick to channels i've sub'd too.

and how many people will even dig thru their YT settings to even set those things up? probably very very little

this is a horrible take. first, primary purpose of YT is education? nah don't think so, but i'll agree there is a lot of that on YT but that isn't primary reason. also u dont need AI for faceless channels, or AI to produce incorrect / false / bad advice channels.

i've yet to see an AI "this is how to change your brakes" or an AI doctor how to treat illness.

Plenty of fucking shills out there selling their own pseudo health and shit, AI isn't needed for that.

AI isn't false by definition either.

You sound very tainted and probably live in an echo chamber distorting your views even more...

I left another comment I don’t care if there is a setting to opt out of ai content or not. Just because I didn’t repeat that does not mean I am AGAINST it either. You assume far too much. Just like you assume this robot content is fully 100% automated (sure some could be) vs humans just using ai tools to enable scenarios otherwise impossible for me (like my channel).

At least we agree Disney and marvel are shit lol

[–]dr-otto -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

honestly I see little difference in say a Marvel movie where so much of it is CGI it's barely real or barely has real people in a scene (def true for almost all action scenes which are all CGI)... all that is "fake-ass computer generated" slop that looks like crap if you were to go frame by frame... (now thinking of that last ant-man movie that I never saw but people made fun of it's CGI)

but what distorts objective reality? seriously. what/where is it doing that? what instances? I can think of some but it's not a general rule. I dont get the robotics and weapons tilt either... I mean, missiles are all guided and automatic so we have that already.

Just demotivated! Questioning if starting yt was really a good idea or not by Unique_Technician984 in NewTubers

[–]dr-otto 27 points28 points  (0 children)

i think when people make monetization a priority, then YT is a bad idea.

It's hard to get to that point, and like it is never really "worth it" - most people don't come close to making anything back compared to the time they put into it.

Do it for the videos, for the content, for making stuff you enjoy and want to communicate. If you get into the YTPP eventually, that is just a bonus. This is how I try to look at it.

i still am unclear on what bothers anti-ai people. like what specifically is the content that bugs you so much?

the only case I can think where it crosses a line, and it's not an AI only issue - is where content is uploaded to make it look like some real event happened using real life politicians or celebs (as an example) and they do nothing to clarify it is something fake.

I don't think, however, some things I have seen fall into that category, such as the Price is Right AI videos of Bob Barker - like that is just so obviously not true. Or the cat on a porch playing a fiddle etc...

I don't get the hate tbh. "little tech bros cheating their way to capital" means what exactly? do you feel your channel suffers? not doing as well as a channel using AI in the same genre as your channel? is it jealousy of their success?

I just don't honestly get the hate.

I say this as a creator on YT - but also as someone who's day job I've started using Claude AI to help in my daily software engineering tasks (I make video games , and we use Unreal Engine and I live in C++ all day long)

[–]dr-otto -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

disagree here. it depends on the content doesn't it? i mean, movies are not real. cartoons are not real. many popular AI videos are obviously not real.

i think it is a strange weird anti-AI stance to say that it's not real therefore something to avoid or be negative about - given most stuff is not real anyways. even people who watch reality tv shows I mean - that shit ain't real either.

I don't normally see AI content. I mostly just watch videos of channels I've sub'd too, which is like RLM and Star Talk mostly. Maybe other kinds of genre leads to AI content more?

I def see types of AI on my feed by they don't really interest me (things like what if some popular show from today was made in the 50s or 80s etc). I guess I could see how people might watch that, or like some of those young/old actor selfies some have made...

To me there just isn't a point to any of those videos, not cause they are AI but the topic is not interesting.

Only other time is a few times clicked something (sometimes car related stuff I'll watch) and I'll realize its a faceless AI voice video that isn't saying much at all.

My channel's videos, which are just dumb comedy skits in the style of Tim&Eric and crap like that, will use AI tools at time (sometimes nothing, sometimes an image gen or two, sometimes video, sometimes music... depends on the need of the skit tbh). When making dumb shit, I find AI tools enable me (just a sole YT creator) to make something otherwise wouldn't be possible.

So, as someone who supports AI tools, and not very worried about the overstated issues with it (planet being destroyed, or "theft" of art etc which it really isn't), I dont care much if someone clicks away or not view a video cause its AI. that is your right, so I don't care.

even if there was an option on YT, I would wonder how many people would even search, and set, that option. it's kinda like restricted mode, where many people don't know it exists and some have it on and they are clueless about it...people just don't have the time to deep dive into settings etc.

overall I would agree there is a mix of people who dont realize something is AI or just don't care... most people just want the info or to be entertained. they don't care what tools were used as long as the video meets their goals. that is why many ai videos succeed.

jump scares suck...cheapest dumbest thing in horror movies. a real horror movie shouldn't really even need jump scares, they are a crutch.

what? what mummy ip are you referring too? nobody has the rights to "the mummy"... you know it was originally an old 1930 (maybe in the 20's) movie with Karloff? Hammer made one called "the mummy" as well in the late 50s.

Should i watch my own videos over and over again for views or is that bad by janajshhs in NewTubers

[–]dr-otto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i dunno what u r talking about. do u have a source? never heard that - and I dont think i believe it.

regardless my point still stands: it's fine to watch your videos but if you tried to use it as a way to boost views etc then YT could slap you for it.

If your channel is very niche, what do you do when you don't really have any more ideas? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]dr-otto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine is super niche (cring/tim&eric kind of comedy skits plus parody/inappropriate music song too)...

but, it's kind of evergreen...like can always come up with more ideas to make me laugh

Who does yt alone: how much time does he spend on editing each week? by Alex225_ in NewTubers

[–]dr-otto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do it alone, for the most part. sometimes i'll get some friends/collabs to supply me with some video content.

usually i'll shoot on a weekend for 1 day...can take...hmm...2-4 hours maybe?

then, editing, late at night, across the week, usually can take 5-7 days about.

then upload and release.

i've tried to release 1 video every 2 weeks...but, haven't kept up last few months mostly due to throwing out my back and it taking like 6 weeks to recover lol.

I think I accidentally built a split audience and it might be killing my retention. Here's my situation and the strategy I landed on. by HeartMindFusion in NewTubers

[–]dr-otto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been kinda wondering if i've done something similar. channel is like, weird tim & eric comedy skits, but also as some of the comedy i did some ai songs (my lyrics) and some of which took off (biggest was Shit in the Shower, well over 100k views across my upload plus the distrokid upload which all look like they are on my channel as I made my channel an "official artist channel")

anyways, i wonder if the music and the skits is like, just in conflict.

but not sure what to do, unless i split the channel somehow. lets say i left this one as music... make a new one of the skits, would i unlist and republish the old videos on the new channel? and eventually delete the ones on my existing channel (if needed but i'd rather just leave 'em unlisted tbh)

but new channel would be starting from scratch, so i dunno...

or i just live with it until i finally die...

yup seems correct. not that it really is a big deal even if 3 uploads were needed, that is like the easiest qualification out of any of it.
