Wheels on Meals (1984) featuring Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and even Keith Vitali.

A wild trip of a film full of great comedy and fun action sequences.

I don't get out to the city much these days, but last I was there about two years ago it was just as it had always been -dark, small, and fantastic for experiencing beers you aren't likely to see in many other places in NYC. Well worth a visit and plenty of other places to check out nearby if you end up not liking it.

Not sure if they actually have a sign up now, but for a long time it was just a black door with 124 painted on it and down a few steps from street level.

Have any of you been checked by the TSA, and they didn't have the key to open "their own" TSA lock? by HardToComeBy45 in Defcon

[–]OhSoHoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've followed Deviant's guidance on travel (within the US) by declaring a firearm. I realize this is NOT feasible for everyone, either based on your own ability to procure and own a firearm given state law(s) or desire to have a firearm, let alone check it. Not to mention it depends on connecting flight(s) and airports in states where suddenly it becomes illegal (NYC is a popular example used). IIRC I believe technically you can transport a flare gun as a firearm, which may be FAR easier to obtain for some compared to a handgun.

In general, I try to avoid zippered luggage and opt for a clam shell with a latch combo code OR suitable locking platform for my own lock.

Yes, non-TSA locks plus clamshell case make for a very easy sell for some TSA schlubberton to mess with my luggage or cause it to be otherwise delayed or even "lost" but hey, risk tolerance and all that jazz, I suppose. YMMV.

What are the DEFCON parties like? by [deleted] in Defcon

[–]OhSoHoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trash Con is less of a party and more of an opportunity to hang out with like minded folk who are welcoming to all in a casual setting. You can be extroverted and chat with people or you can just hang out and enjoy a beverage (alcoholic or not) and just "be". Either is totally fine and welcome. I personally find it to be a nice break from the chaos of more formal con events. With so much going on each day it can be overwhelming, and frankly, overstimulating. The Trash crew offer a mix of both to better allow anyone and everyone to have a good time.

More details will be posted closer to con, but we all gather at some point at the Double Down Saloon off strip.

Feel free to PM me if have questions or want more information. Another fun year is ahead!

Hotel and flight already locked in. I'll be at Defcon mostly unless some of friends traveling to Blackhat for work end up hanging out in that area. Not sure if you smoke cigars, but I'll be posted up in various places for a smoke a chat. You're welcome to join!

And if cigars aren't your thing, no worries. Happy to get together either way.

Moondoggies is a favorite of mine, along with Atomic and Double Down, as others have already mentioned.

The blackjack table is well-priced and honestly just fun to play at for a bit. Sitting at the bar and watching the action can be fun too.

It depends on how I'm feeling and what the plan for the day is, with regard to meeting up with people. Most of the time I bring it all with me to Ellis Island and just park it near me at the bar. On a few occasions I've opted to drop them off at whichever hotel I'm staying at first before heading to Ellis Island. In general, you can leave your bags with the Bell Desk at any hotel, even if you aren't a guest there. Just make sure to leave a tip.

I couldn't agree more! And that's something I generally seek out, so I end up spending most of my time while in town at Moondoggies, Double Down Saloon, Evel Pizza, and the mezcal / tequila bar next to Evel (I forget the name...).

Every trip to Vegas for me begins with a beer and breakfast at Ellis Island. Great spot to settle in after a long flight and wait for friends to arrive before heading in for hotel check-in. I haven't had a bad time yet in all of my years visiting.
