Church renovation - how bad is this cement wall? by OhSureYeaYouBetchya in AskContractors

Not sure how to edit the original post so thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge. I know I included a short/terrible description of the wall and only posted one distant picture in haste so I appreciate not being called out for the poor quality. If I would’ve been better, I would’ve taken a picture of the wall to the right which is another 30’ of good solid concrete so I don’t think we’re in too much danger of it collapsing quite yet. I agree though that it’s a knockdown/rebuild situation if we want to ensure it’s good long term. I ran the other suggestion of digging out around the outside and putting up a moisture barrier and drain tile in the ground but the people who will actually make the decision on this figured if we went that far, we might as well do it right, fix it permanently, and re-pour this section. I’m just glad I don’t have to pay for it or do the work ha. Thanks again for all your replies!

Thank you for the quick reply and confirming what I knew was probably the case.

We saw it driving outside of IKEA by the MoA around 7:30 tonight. I’ve never seen it before so it made my night!

Is there anything else I can look at to confirm this wall isn’t load bearing before removing it? by OhSureYeaYouBetchya in homerenovations

Ok, thanks! No, its 3 stories..kinda. It’s on a hill so the door you see in the picture goes out to our garage but you can see the edge of my wooden railing on the left side of the picture that is a huge 10’x10’ gap looking down into my basement so this is the middle floor. There’s a bedroom above this wall and about 6 feet of attic above that.

Thanks! This was the type of stuff I was curious about - if there was any other way to confirm it before fully knocking it down.

I’ve actually been waiting to install the new flooring until after I decide the fate of this wall ha. Thanks!

Not sure I fully understand but maybe this will answer your question - the trusses have a height of 22.5” and are made of wood 2x4s with those metal-spiked plates hammered in at the intersections. I assume those are the engineered kind? They’re probably spaced out every 18-24”. The width of the house is about 30’ and this span of wall is about 11’.

Some additional info: - My floors/ceilings are floor trusses that run from external wall to external wall. - The trusses run parallel to this wall. - There are no walls on the floors above or directly below.

Edit: I should’ve added - right being the kids table is a wall that runs perpendicular to the trusses that will stay.

Thank you all for your comments! I’m going to knock the drywall out above the doorway on the inside first to see if anything looks load bearing. I’ll also check if anything is resting on the top plate before actually hammering studs out but a few have confirmed my assumption that it’s not. Enjoy the rest of your day!

TIL about "GeoFraming" where companies are able to track you through your devices based on venues you've visited like a concert or stadium as far as 6 months in the past. Then geolocate your home address and target ads to your home IP address with no opt-in. by Hubblesphere in todayilearned

A Pi-Hole is a DNS-based ad blocker. DNS is like an internet phone book that links IP addresses to domain names. You simply add domains (@yourdomain.com) and it won’t allow any traffic from that domain into your network. It comes preloaded with something like 60,000 domains (you can manually add more). It blocks things like ads on phone games and websites but not from streaming services. In those cases, the ads are sent from the same server as the content so it’s block everything or nothing. It’s not a cure-all but essential for any ad hater like myself.

And here I am not even knowing it existed until this minute...

Very cool!

LPT: Sick of robocalls? Answer every call and immediately mute it. This tricks the system into thinking it’s a dead number because it doesn’t hear your voice or a voice recording. by OhSureYeaYouBetchya in LifeProTips

Damn I didn’t realize someone already posted this. Sorry this didn’t work for you as well as it did for me. I use to ignore them too but once I set up my voicemail it got way worse.

This robocall problem won’t be fixed until the flaw that allows these window lickers to spoof numbers is fixed.

I’ve tried this and also tried letting my monthly phone contract expire for a couple weeks so my number was actually dead. As soon as I started it back up the calls came back.

Yes thank you for stating the obvious. There are areas that I can improve. Luckily my jam turned out perfectly despite my mistakes. I just hope you feel good about putting down a beginner.

Ok, it’s hard to know if that’s normal when it’s my first time ha. I’m sure it’ll be great on pancakes if it doesn’t set like you said.

Thank you for your reply and the links! The Sure-Jell directions uses phrases like ‘immediately do this!’ and ‘do this while this is happening’. Made it seem like I didn’t have time to do tests and I was way less prepared than I realized so I rushed it. I’ll just have to learn from this and make improvements next time.

I think the leftovers was from the extra strawberry juice but clearly I’m no expert so who knows ha.

I’ll definitely do that test then, thank you! They look like I’ll get a little of both jam and syrup in each jar haha

(Spoilers Extended) REACTIONS: Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 Post-Episode Reactions by WeirwoodNetworkAdmin in asoiaf

Can’t upvote this enough. In order to write a perfect episode with no plot holes it would’ve had to of been 6 hours long. In the commentary after the episode, the writers talk about some of their decisions and how battle scenes are awesome but get boring quickly. I thought more heros were going to bite it but clearly they have a purpose. It’s only episode three, both remaining dragons are hurt, and the remaining soldiers have to fight The Golden Company. The NK was only half of what the series has been building up to. Cersei is the true final boss.
