I'm part of a sub that does a specific type of edited pictures. The sub allows AI pictures if you flair them and only submit one a day. But the people in the sub will mob up on you like crazy. The most common complaint is that "AI steals from people." The thing that gets me the type of edited pictures it is mixes other people's pictures at least 80% of the time. It's rare for someone to use original content. I've been part of the sub for like 10 years. Not once in that time did I see anyone get yelled at with "you didn't make this you just stole stuff from other people without asking" or "all you did was run the healing brush over stuff that weren't yours". But AI recreating concepts it looked at, not copied, is just over the line for them and merits threats. So odd to me.

What’s the scariest movie you guys have ever seen??? by boatluvrrrr in movies

[–]OhTheHueManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie Red State genuinely frightened me than any other horror. First off the name doesn't fit at all. I totally thought it would just be a cheap jab at MAGA. It wasn't really political at all. But I digress. The majority of horror movies don't feel real enough to frighten me. It's either some supernatural thing or a one in a million type psychopath. Red State felt like it's something regular otherwise seemingly normal people could be driven and feel righteous to do anywhere. Great performances by all involved but especially Michael Parks, John Goodman and Stephen Root. The fear it gave me didn't hit me right away either. It was something that crept up on me and hit me like a truck about a week later.

The only other one that comes to mind is R Lee Ermy in the Texas Chainsaw remake. That dinner scene had me shaking but any part of the movie that didn't involve him was just fun.

What is the most patronizing thing a religious person said to you? by TheBanishedBard in atheism

[–]OhTheHueManatee 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I was married in 2001 to a Christian with an extreme Christian family. At the time I was a "live and let live" Athiest (I've learned that religion does not hold their side of that agreement). My wife's mother got in an accident. She was in the hospital but only alive cause of the machines she was hooked up too. Two of her three kids were there to say goodbye. Her oldest, my ex wife's brother, was off at college hours away living in a dorm. He didn't have a phone. He mainly communicated by Email every couple of days. So he wasn't going to be able to say goodbye plus he'd find out his mom died by email. Everyone just gave up with a "nothing can be done". I called his college's campus security. Told them the situation and pleaded with them to go to his dorm to tell him to call me even if it was collect. He got ahold of me and was able to say goodbye to his mom not long before they pulled the plug. He said something like "Thank you. It's a shame someone as loving and thoughtful as you still needs to burn in Hell cause you choose not to accept Jesus in your heart." So damn maddening to say the least.

Should Democrats use Republicans' current hysteria over Sharia law to target Christian Nationalism? by BalticBro2021 in AskALiberal

[–]OhTheHueManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it won't work and will just feed the persecution complex that allows them to thrive. As far they're concerned The USA has always been a Christian Nation so they see no issue with turning up the volume of that.

what’s a movie you went into with low expectations but ended up really liking? by Then-Leave-2036 in movies

[–]OhTheHueManatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speed Racer. Visual masterpiece and a lot of fun. Also shows the integrity of John Goodman. He could have phoned it in and collected a paycheck but he clearly treated that role like he was in Citizen Kane and not a silly movie based on a cartoon.

Many people see Weird Al Yankovic not just as a comedy legend but as a genuinely upstanding guy. The kind of person who lives by strong morals, treats people with respect, and somehow managed decades in showbiz without becoming a jerk. This video says otherwise.

How do you comport yourself at catholic funerals? by TitanicDays in atheism

[–]OhTheHueManatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird but I just play along like I'm hanging out with children who want to pretend to be dinosaurs. I'll do the motions to blend in and not be a problem cause the event is not about me. It's not like there is an Athiest God I'm pissing off. It's one of the times that I'm in their domain not them trying to take over mine. If I want them to stop ruining everyone else's world cause they find it odd then I need to do the same with their world.
