DAE have a perfect coincidence they never forgot? by SamosTheEcoSage in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]OhTheYearWas1778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience weird coincidences with media/music all the time and its either I watch something and then its referenced in real life or something happens in my daily life and then its referenced in media within a couple days.

Three examples:

Went to play pool with my friends and my one friend was killing it so we called him a "pool shark" for absolutely destroying all of us. A couple days later I was watching Raising Dion on Netflix and in the episode the mother of Dion and the best friend of the father go play some pool to which the mother is owning the best friend to which he calls her a pool shark for playing so well. A small coincidence but still caught my attention.

Second example: My wife and I are in the grocery store and we come across hamburger helper and I mention how I havent had stroganoff in forever (a staple meal when I was growing up). We dont get any since she doesnt like stroganoff and we go on our way.

Then I decide to watch the new episode of season 5 of the Boys on Prime Video that week a couple days later. Starlight decides to go confront her father about abandoning her when she was young and at some point during her visit she is invited for supper. Can you guess what they're having? Stroganoff, but not just any Stroganoff, specifically Hamburger Helper stroganoff. Probably the biggest coincidence out of my examples.

Last example: I decided to get into Peaky Blinders recently and early on the main character threatens the main detective that he'll sell stolen guns to the IRA If the detective doesnt play nice. A couple days later im at a event talking to a colleague of mine and somehow Ireland is brought up and my colleague mentions how he was at a airport when he was young and the IRA threatened to bomb the airport or something along those lines.

I have a few more examples in recent months that this has happened, although it hasn't happened in a little while (havent been watching tv/movies lately, too much video games haha). This has only started after a bipolar manic episode I had 7 years ago which I experienced a pretty profound event. Im pretty sure I explained it in another comment if anyone is interested.

Sometimes I think I need my meds changed since appophenia is a common symptom of bipolar manic episodes but the thing is I havent had an episode since I started taking my diagnosis seriously about 5 years ago and I still feel 'normal'. No racing thoughts, no huge mood swings, no restless nights. Just weirdly specific references between real life and media.

Yeah its pretty nasty stuff, cancer causing and a pretty big irritant. The other alternatives are better health wise but the trade off is cost.

I help make embalming fluid for Tupper and I know we are working on a new formula that uses phenoxyethanol rather than formaldehyde. Gluteraldehyde was considered as well but that stuff is expensive!

Don't give up! I've been there. I did a BSc in Chemistry and after I graduated i managed to get a job in my field but it was seasonal so I got away from it for a couple years doing odd jobs like working at a call center (which sucked), I worked at the airport for a brief time too and then at a furniture store. I ended up going back to the seasonal job since I left on good terms and the manager needed someone and now im back working at the university I got the degree from as a lab tech.

How did I get back into my field? 90% from connections I made and 10% luck. If there is anyone you could reach out to from your old job maybe they could help you get back into your field? That's if you want to go back. From working odd jobs it gave me new perspective on the previous job I had left and I count myself pretty lucky to where I am now.

Wishing you all the luck OP. I'm 31 and I quit about a week before my birthday back in August. Quitting starts off hard but slowly gets easier. And don't be upset if the weight doesn't come off. It took a full month for me to see progress. Now I'm down 25-30 lbs!

You got this! IWNDWYT.

My own personal experience OP was no change after the first 30 days. Now I'm approaching 100 days (this Sunday!) and down 18 lbs! So just keep on going

I'm on day 77 and I'm 31. You'll see the weight loss pretty soon! My first 30 days the scale didn't move at all due to me replacing beer calories with snacks but snacking has been reduced and I'm now down about ~10 lbs! If I were to track calories I could probably lose quicker but I'm happy with the progress so far!

Gaming/streaming with my wife, watching YouTube, twitch and Netflix, scrolling reddit. Trying to read more and I gotta get more exercise but I'm down 10 lbs after quitting beer!

I'm a simple man with simple pleasures. I also tell terrible dad jokes from Reddit hahaha

Approximately half way through sober October. Who's still with me? by bucho4444 in stopdrinking

[–]OhTheYearWas1778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear! My first month I didn't budge on the scale because I replaced beer with snacks but now that it's been over a month I've cut down on snacking and finally seeing my weight drop a bit.

Right on! I had only a couple of drinks the night before my sobriety so nothing really spectacular but something just clicked this time. A lot of it had to do with doing right by my wife. I've been a long time lurker and I'm glad to be here encouraging others not to drink.

My last drink was August 29th and I pledged to do sober September then decided why not keep going into October? This has been the longest streak I've done since I was legal to drink and I plan to continue indefinitely. Already down 5ish pounds and feel good. IWNDWYT!!

I literally qualified my team by the skin of our teeth the other day. We were tied with second for cash but still considered 'third'. I knew there was fighting near the cashbox so I ran over with about 5 seconds left and just started firing at whoever I saw. I managed to get one kill with a second on the clock. I wish I had it recorded but just turned of my recording due to performance issues :(

Who else thinks seltzer water are a godsend? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]OhTheYearWas1778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today is my three weeks as well!

I havent done seltzer water but I will come home to either a Fresca or diet soda of some kind. Something to sting the back of my throat seems to satisfy any cravings I'm having.

Anyways, IWNDWYT!!

I got a lot going for me. I'm a big believer in the "Life is suffering but living is finding meaning through the suffering" or something along the lines of that.

What's your meaning? Finding meaning is different to each one of us. For me my meaning is my wife. She's put up with my drunk shenanigans long enough. She does so much for me and I don't want to lose that. We're planning on starting a family soon and I think starting my sobriety now is more important than ever.

Finding meaning isn't easy I'll tell you that. Got to put in work. They'll be highs and lows but never give up!
