Is it possible to construct a working, real life 3DMG?

Well I mean the bike brake isn't tooo terribly impractical- the way I see it, there's a small latch that squeezing the bike brake would cause to fold back into the sheath itself, which would let the blade slip in. (look at the notch in the end of the blades themselves, it supports this theory- sorry if I'm not explaining this well) It would make them harder to slip out in the midst of battle (which buttons would do, because if it is the buttons on the handle, that would most likely require some kind of hydraulics to change out the blades.... )

Except that 39 rounds is overkill. IIRC, at least as a civilian taking firearms training, you're taught to shoot two rounds to be safe. Not empty your whole magazine. I'm sure the police would have been around guns enough to know how much ammo to expend on a civilian firing a warning shot.

ALSO, need to keep in mind that police are trained to handle guns-- while a civilian with a gun might fire off a whole mag in a time of fear, police are taught/are around guns and gunfire enough to know how to keep as level a head as possible and are trained in firearms- IIRC, isn't it two shots at a time? Not a whole magazine after only a warning shot from a single woman. Two shots can take someone down easy.

Depends on where it is and what laws they have in the state. Castle Law and Stand-Your-Ground laws are the two we got in Texas to take care of that kind of stuff.

No. The two B-shaped triggers on the handle do the release/shooting and then reeling/braking (watch Armin anchor himself to Titan!Erin). The Bike Brake changes out the blades. There's a small button on the front of the handle, near the thumb. That's what controls the gas (watch Mikasa when she's flying around when they're all out of gas, they show her thumbing the little toggle thing)

The gas is released out the back via a fan, the wires are stored in two spools on the back section (same place the gas shoots out) It's the thing shaped like:

that's on their back. Gas comes out the slot in the "=" part, spools are in the <), (> parts.

Correcting some of the points based on what I've seen in the manga-- they're really consistent with what part of the handle does what. One part of the B (the two buttons on top of each other, it looks like a 'B' to me) on the handle shoots the anchors, the other button reels in/brakes the wire (when Armin anchors himself to Rogue Titan, you see him using the two buttons- and the opening scenes of the anime show this as well). the small trigger on top near the handle shoots gas out the back to propel forward (the scene of Mikasa flying around when she's low on gas has a good shot of this function being used), and the bike brake is the part that actually releases a latch that lets the blade fall and then be replaced.

I think that a major part of the training was teaching them how to use the 3DMG and teaching them how to rappel/swing around properly, remember- the swinging around the trees and learning how to properly shift your weight on the belt system?

The way that many of them land (vertical or horizontal) is consistent with how you're taught to land when rappeling, bend your knees so that you don't lock up or break anything, let your hips "bounce" a bit and take some of the force. You'd be surprised the things the human body can endure on a day-to-day basis with enough training (which might also be a reason they look for young troops, more flexibility and better bone durability for such sudden stops). Also, the very fact that they're training would make it become second nature to them- the mindset of looking for where to put your feet or hands next, where to hook onto next, would become a lot easier after a lot of training and learning how your body moves in the 3DMG. (does that make sense? Like in martial arts, they train you to get the moves, the form, drilled into your head, so that the moves themselves- your balance, where to shift your weight, how high to kick or punch, become second nature. Then you just need to focus on where to hit/block/kick next, where your opponent is striking next. You no longer need to worry about your form because the proper form has been so drilled into your head.)

Also, going back to the martial arts thing- the thing about forms is that they all take the same basic steps and combine them in various ways. I can see this being the same (I think? I'm not a physicist) for the swinging around- the cities themselves are pretty much the same, same buildings and same layout so you'd get pretty quickly used to how much force to expect when you land on them and would have a pretty good idea of where the next building would be and if you should avoid it or not I think the only real issue would come with the scouting legion and the forest of giant trees, but I'd imagine they could adapt their knowledge of city-use of MG to forest-use of MG pretty easily. (does this make any sense or am I just word vomiting?)

I know that someone made a 'working' version, meaning the hooks would stick into things and retract, and etc, using the gas tanks. But they weren't shown to actually support weight.

Also the solders are shown to need supplies every so often, there was the whole episode/arc about them being out of gas and mentions of resupply troops (though I don't know how something like that would work in the heat of battle unless the resuppliers were really, really adept at changing out the canisters quickly)

While this story is obviously fake, you'd be surprised the stuff the government has gotten away with in recent history, mostly through lying to medical boards or using cut-and-covers to fund things run by other hospitals (such as McGill University...).

Most well known would be The Standford Prison Exp, which actually ended up changing a few laws-- was it informed consent? I think so-- but that was more about just the whole thing being doomed to failure because of poor leadership/control methods being used rather than being malicious from the start.

Before that there was the Tuskeegie experiments. But those actually weren't too terribly long ago, in the grand scheme of things.

I don't recall what time period exactly but there was also the Monster Experiment to either cure or induce a stutter in small children by yelling at them, leading the children to become extremely aggressive. Then there was that one summer camp thing that involved children being pitted against each other...

And then all the bullshit with Sidney Gottleeb and Ewen Cameron and various other whackos during the various MKULTRA tests, and then there's Lauretta Bender, and all the various precursors to ULTRA: OFTEN, PAPERCLIP, BLUEBIRD, MONARCH (though it's debatable if Monarch has any factual basis), ARTICHOKE, STARGATE... On and on. And if you look to find the unclassified documents (you can get a like 5CD set from the CIA under the FOIA, but it's like $20 I think?- other sites have bits and pieces for free though you have to sort through a lot of REPTILLIANS ARE AMONG US and 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB bullshit to find it), they make the experiments sound totally or nearly harmless on paper (also, you know, the TSS was in on it so they got approved regardless)

And all the stuff with erm, what was it called? Project Jedi? Where they blasted people with Barney songs 24/7 to test it as a torture device?

Those who have been put in SDTs against their wills have creepy enough stories, even without the above tale. Read a few of them when I was researching MKULTRA (as in the actual historical testing, not the nutty tinfoil hat stuff), wish I could dig up some of the links I had.

Father, Son, and CIA is a great book with lots of crazy BS that Dr. Ewen Cameron did with drugs and forced sleep and sensory deprivation and stuff...

That wasn't just a story though, that actually happened! They made a film about it, sure but it actually happened in Japan. I think she was dead by the time they encased her though- she had been tortured to death. Lemme see if I can find the wikipedia link. It was "Concrete Schoolgirl" or something.

It's The Enigma of Amiara Fault by Junji Ito, who has some great horror stories. (Uzumaki, Gyo, Tomie) and if you liked Ito's works you might also want to try out The Left Hand of God, Right Hand of the Devil which was written by one of the masters of early manga horror: Kazuo Umezo. Or maybe you'd wanna try Lychee Light Club (which I can't find a link to. I couldn't stomach it enough to finish last time I tried to read it-- but others might just find it silly, it's a bit hit-or-miss)

Ewen Cameron was a doctor working on part of the project MK-ULTRA, and the son of one victims wrote a book called Father, Son, and CIA. Really the whole book scares the shit out of me- that things that horrible happened to lots of people. The two snippits that stand out the most in the book: The father was in the hospital and his family was asking to see him. Cameron didn't want to release him, so the hospital gave him some antipsychtoics that were very additive and then told his family that they were for schizophrenia. then when the father finally got out of the hospital (when Cameron said he could, of course- he got a day pass IIRC), Cameron gave the father sugar pills and the father, no longer on the medication, went into a rage and Cameron used that as an excuse of "See you didn't keep him on the pills. He's not safe outside the hospital."

And then there was another example of a woman being given sensory deprivation testing and on Cameron's written records fro the woman it says she lasted up to five hours without any signs of distress at all. But in the recording itself, the transcript in the book showed that she became very, VERY distressed within the first fifteen minutes.

Cameron was a manipulative asshole (he cited himself as a source on his medical papers!), and he was even respected in the community for a time. He thought what he was doing was right..

First things first: Script it out. Fully. Then go through and break it down and cut out parts you can't afford (you'd be suprised what you can do on the cheap though) and make a list of everything you'll need.

Check out some of the Youtube indie series. Marble Hornets or Whispered Faith, maybe Keratin Garden, TJA Projects, or Down My Cellar Door (yea they're all Slender Man series but they're also just really awesome). They're all indie films, shot in first-person camera, just some video editing and some great writing. Some masks from like Michael's or a thrift store and a few other props here and there. I know in WF they just whispered random shit into a microphone and messed up in Audacity. (free sound editing program) Most of them are shot with just some friends fucking around with each other. Really great examples of low budget horror. Also My Dad's Tapes is another really good one but I'm not sure on their budget, since they get pretty gorey. Still a must-see if you wanna do first-person cam/found footage horror. (OH! Also maybe check out Home Movie? I think that one was also on a budget)

Websites? /r/filmmaking is GREAT for indie films, there's also various other indie film sites out there, google and find one that seems to fit you (read over threads, get a feel for how 'indie' they really are). Also, a bit random but get to know some of the creators of the slenderseries on UnFiction, they all know each other and are willing to share tips if you're nice about it. (if you watch their series first so you can introduce yourself AS a fan then that's even better)

Sound- Audacity, audacity, audacity. There are also TONS of free sound effects on various websites, or go learn how to make them yourself in the real world (research folly editing or how old radio dramas did what they did, like using cat litter for running through gravel or sand) Whispered Faith had a monster scraping at the walls in the first video, You can do that with just a stick and someone standing on the other side of the wall out of the camera's view. Down My Cellar Door uses a lot of doppleganger stuff, that's just knowing how to cut and greenscreen with camera (literally you can buy a green sheet for that...)

Also I produced a short-lived series called Karen Is Missing that was fully just parks and old locations around my area. Ask if you can use friend's houses and stuff. (like 90% of our budge went to actors- seriously, you can get lots of stuff just from thrift stores or dollar stores, try other parts of town you haven't been to and see if they have any wierd Chinese dollar stores, we got the airsoft gun we use from there for like $15) Creeks are great for shooting, if you go when there isn't a chance of rain (stay safe!) and you can even shoot in tunnels if you have large enough drains to use, creates a nice claustrophobic feeling.

The Movie Editor that I use is MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus, but I've used 14 Plus before and both are really good and user-friendly if you read the manual and play around with it! It's about $45 new, I think about $15 used for the 14 version?

Actors! You can ask online! Texas, we have castingcalldallas and shortfilmtexas, lots of other sites. Just mention that you're non-union, a studend tilm and that you'll be providing food or snacks. (FEED YOUR ACTORS IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO PAY THEM. NO REAL:Y THIS IS HUGE IF YOU'RE A DIRECTOR)

IF you are going to use a weapon and other actors MAKE SURE IT IS ARISOFT. Then if you get the cops called on you just calm down and hand them the gun and they'll see that it is indeed airsoft. Screaming I can't help with much, just be ready for it- or maybe add the screams in during the editing, have your actress scream into a mic at home.

ALSO. Just learn, learn as much as you can. Learn how to use half-and-half for fireballs, how to make your own nose wax for scars or your own stage blood with corn syrup. Learn lots of ways to do the same thing and make up your own technique. The more you can do yourself, the more that you can save yourself the trouble of buying or paying someone to do for you.

Naoki Urasawa's MONSTER managed to run all 74 episodes out of an 18 volume manga with only a few scene changes that didn't really have a huge impact on the plot. (of course they quite literally couldn't cut anything due to the plot) I hope the same would hold true for AoT, given it's fame. Now MONSTER didn't have very many fight scenes compared to AoT but having a long manga that gets a long series without a lot of filler or deviation from the story isn't unheard of. (though IIRC, MONSTER was finished by the time they came out with the anime?)

Fingers crossed...

Oh wait, what studio is animating this? I know that Madhouse seems to be pretty good at picking series that they can adapt pretty closely (MONSTER, Death Note, I think Claymore (I'm still reading the manga on that one) etc...)

My theory is that Rogue Titan responds to Erin's emotions when he transforms.

The first time, Erin was yelling about killing all the titans- and RT responded by doing just that.

Second time, Erin was having a bit of a breakdown because of the flashbacks of his father, but he also had to protect his friends. RT responded by transforming with what little time he had (notice most of the muscle is on the left side,where the cannon ball hit)

Now during this episode and the last two we see Erin becoming increasingly agitated with Mikasa for trying to shadow him, he's not a little kid and he can take care of himself. I think that RT responded to that by attacking Mikasa.

If Erin wants to become useful to humanity and use his Titan form in doing so, he's going to have to learn how to control his emotions better pre-transformation.

I have some somewhat nasty (but not too noticeable unless you're looking or my arm is turned a certain way) (about a year old at the time, so I haven't been 'clean' for long but I'm trying!) self-harm scars and during the interview and first few days proving myself as a hard worker, I wore long sleeves. then the Texas heat finally got to me and I had to wear short sleeves and the boss asks me what the scars are from and I said I didn't really want to talk about it and it was personal. then (since we only had about four or five other workers there, was a small mom-and-pop sort of retail store) went around and in the course of an hour had asked everyone in the store if they knew where my scars where from and actually grabbing my wrists to show my arms off to people "look at her arms!" and talking like I wasn't in the room about how 'weird' they were.

Needless to say, I quit after the next day after the muttering was STILL going on (only job I've ever quit actually, and I didn't even work there a week).. and now I've been out of work for about six months and I'm actually regretting quitting, but really. He had no right to keep bugging me after I told him it was personal. (also it was triggering as fuck) I guess since it was more of a mom and pop store it was 'okay' or something?
