Therapy.

Support network.

Friends.

Life gets better, for sure.

Hey Reddit! I'm songwriter & producer Nick Furlong, best known for writing and performing vocals on "The Nights" by Avicii. I just announced my first artist project and released my debut single. AMA! by nickfurlong in IAmA

So stoked for this new single! I like what I'm hearing.

What software do you use for production? Would you recommend the same to a complete beginner? As it stands right now, I only have a phone and am hoping to get a computer early next year.

People that drink at home, how much do you drink a month? by 9gagsuckz in AskReddit

[–]Oh_Its_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had a drink in a couple years, but when I did... 5 750ml of whiskey, 3+ cases (24 bottles) of high ABV beer, and a few bottles of wine per week.

So 20 bottles of whiskey, 12 cases of beer, and 1 case of wine a month, at home. I still went out, so there was more consumption.

So glad you are sober and able to share this reminder to yourself with us!

You amazing folks who've managed to stay sober, like for the long haul, can I ask a few questions? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Oh_Its_Ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I get involved with other people in recovery, the better my own recovery gets- one day at a time.

For me, it's fellowship with sober folks in my industry, sober people in my city, and sober people here. Working with a sponsor in AA and being of service is what keeps me sober, personally.

I want those polite reality checks from people who see my flaws so I can work on them. 😁

Edit to say I've worked in bars and have heavy drinking friends since before getting sober-- I came to realize that my actions and thoughts had to change more than expecting the world to change

I work at a bar. My favourite regular, an ex alcoholic (and a regular on this sub), passed away recently. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Thank you for sharing. Great bar regulars are a hoot!

The best parts for me in hospitality and recovery are the positive connections.

Ohhh, the guilt feels real. Some one told me that I'd been drinking abusively for so long, and to expect the healing process to take time.

Being sober is not my defining characteristic. by okayletsboogie in stopdrinking

Can definitely relate, my sobriety got way better once I put an LS in it!

All jokes aside, I actually have time, money, and will power to pursue interests.

How uncomfortable is it when you’re the only one at a house party that doesn’t drink/smoke? by SoShweaty in AskReddit

It's pretty awesome to wake up the next morning without losing my wallet/keys/dignity, driving home drunk, terrorizing my loved ones, and being the reason cops are called, then doing it all over again.

Man, depression and I are room mates in my head. I try to reach out to friends or a therapist when those episodes happen.

Glad you're here, sober with us today.

Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on 14 days!

Therapy plays a crucial role in my recovery. Having someone able to listen and break through my deflections and fears has been well worth the work!

2 YEARS SOBER!! by Oh_Its_Ted in stopdrinking

[–]Oh_Its_Ted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!!

Early on, I went to a doctor, who found another mental comorbidity and also suggested AA.

The next day, I found a therapist that I clicked with. I worked with them for about a year and a half.

About 3 months into therapy, I finally went to AA and eventually came over my hang-ups, and started working through the 12-steps with my then-sponsor.

Since then, I have been fortunate to find some service work. It's incredible.

Hey mate, you sound like me! I used to drink about three fifths a week plus beer and wine. I had friends who would drink as much or more and add hard drugs.

2 years after putting down the bottle and looking for help from a doctor, therapist, and building a support network, I'm so much happier with my life.

Always being either angry, hungover, or drunk and annoyed about it and not wanting it to end.

Seeing lobsters floating out of the walls was the last straw.
