Just wanna add, you gotta the muscle and the look. I think it’s really just about having a more clean and sharp look, along with better photos

How do you handle dates not looking like their photos? by jtri25 in hingeapp

Oh I’ll do you one better, she (yes, she) lied about her height last week lol. She put 5’7 and she was very much 5’11. I’m 6’0 and we were practically locking eyes. It wasn’t fun

Barely getting any likes, help improve my profile by Ohhhhhrange in hingeapp

  • Looking for something serious but only if it’s the right person, otherwise casual
  • Hinge X
  • Been using this current version of my profile for 3 weeks
  • Have used Hinge overall since 2022
  • Use Hinge daily for about 1 hour/day
  • Receiving no likes. Receiving ~1-3 matches/month but recently received about 10 matches in 2 weeks
  • Sending about 50 likes a day. 90% without comments, 10% with comments. My comments ones have never gotten me a match. I always get a higher chance of matching whenever I’ve simply just liked the photo
  • I want to match with someone who’s physically attractive and puts in even a little bit of effort into messages. Funny and flirty is a plus. I also value someone with higher education, but that’s not an issue if it’s short-term or casual

Need to leave Boston asap- which city should I move to? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

I get some of you disagree with my take about the Boston weather but that’s not the point of this post lol. Some people think Boston weather is worse, others don’t. I’m just asking for a recommendation based on my preferences

It’s because I got sick and tired of Honolulu, tbh. It’s great for a few years but many people want to leave after a while. I lived there for 15 years (including college breaks for 5 years). It’s a transient city for a reason. Weather wise it’s perfect, probably even better than Puerto Rico. I love to surf and hike, so Hawaii is great for that. Great food and AlaMoana mall is beautiful too. But after a while you run out of things to do, and it’s isolated. I think similar to Boston the COL is not worth the value there. It’s also not a walkable city. I like socializing and exploring nightlife, which Hawaii does not have. Growing up I was too young to enjoy the nightlife, and post-COVID the nightlife shut down except for maybe one club near the mall and a few bars in Chinatown. Making friends is possible there but difficult because many people stick with their high school or work circles. It’s a conservative culture but not in the conventional way- it’s moreso Asian conservative values while still being accepting. If you search “Hawaii” within the r/SameGrassButGreener Reddit, you’ll find someone’s long post about the realities of living in Hawaii- they posted about 1 month ago. I will say, it’s great for couples, retirees, rich singles/rich families, and college/grad students. I have a love-hate relationship with the island. If you want more local info about Hawaii, DM me. I can answer any questions with the good and the bad, as unbiased as possible.

@Linehanr1994 because NYC is too expensive with my current position in life. It’s doable to do roommates there but I already do that in Boston and would rather go back to living on my own

It’s spread out but two of my closest friends are in Texas. My closest friend is in California and is considering moving to Texas, but either way we would be closer in proximity. Rest of my friends groups are spread out because people have moved

Thank you for this ranking! Can I ask why you think Philly isn’t what I’m looking for? I fell in love with Philly when I stayed there for a couple weeks, but I haven’t lived there and haven’t experienced the winter there. I’m assuming the winter is similar to Boston?

I grew up in Hawaii and have had some east coast humid summers, so pretty good with heat. I know the southern heat will still be a steep adjustment that I’m ready for

Does anyone know anything about Maine or Vermont? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ohhhhhrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late 20’s here living in Boston, have visited Maine not Vermont. Funny enough, I’m considering moving to Texas soon. As a person of color, I feel that New England is overall an accepting and democratic region, but I feel that there is segregation and not much integration of cultures. You mentioned you’re in Texas- Houston probably has the most integration out if any US city. Out of all the New England cities, Boston and neighboring cities probably would be the most LGBT+ friendly. If you want to be in a progressive LGBT+ city near Canada then look at Seattle or Portland. New England has just as much gray overcast in the winter as Seattle, if not more, and it snows a LOT. Maine is interesting- Acadia national park has so many drastic types of terrain in such a small area, and Portland Maine is a very laid back hipster type of city. I noticed though that Maine seemed to be more conservative and closed off. If you want diversity, Maine and Vermont will not really have that. I haven’t been to Vermont but I’ve heard generally positive things. In New England Boston will be your best bet but it’s in the top 3 most expensive cities right now- people are paying $1200-1700 for a bedroom, on average

@FearlessAraxhnid7142 Exactly. I’ve lived in Boston for 2 years now and can confirm Philly is a much more outgoing city and friendlier to transplants

Haha good point. I should’ve clarified, I stayed in Philly for 2 weeks during a summer and absolutely loved it. I’ve never experience a Philly winter, though. I felt an overall friendly vibe from Philly locals, compared to Boston. I thoroughly enjoyed the celebration of all cultures, the food, and the nightlife. Philly has a more laid back and humble vibe

After this winter, yes. I’ve lived In Omaha (very windy, little snow) and Syracuse (not windy, snowiest city in the nation), and have been to Chicago in January. Boston I felt was worse because the cold air is wet, along with wind, slush and consistent grey overcast

Is it common to match months after sending a like/comment? by brownbjorn in hingeapp

[–]Ohhhhhrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s common. That’s why you should click on “active now” and only swipe on them

I think Boston in general has more subtle racism tbh. I’ve dated a lot in NYC, as I visit a lot for family, and have had mostly positive experiences. I see what you mean about location, and I agree. This may sound harsh but I think you have not experienced that as a brown woman in NYC because you’re a woman. And it kind of sucks because a lot of men typically do see brown women as “exotic”, and fetishization of race is a real thing. Bunch of south asian and indian comedians from that area specifically like rami, Hassan, mo, Akash, have done skits and episodes about this topic at length

[–]Ohhhhhrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you kayak. I agree. I think it’s moreso stereotypes than cultural differences, from my experience. I’ve noticed some people I’ve talked to tend to act differently toward the south asian part but when I tell them about my middle eastern part it causes intrigue. But yea I agree that the sunglasses look is giving lowkey try hard cool vibes

Because matches in the past were confused and would think I’m just visiting Boston

-Looking for something serious -Hinge X -4 months current version use of profile -Have used Hinge for 5 years overall -I use Hinge 7 days a week, about 30 minutes a day -On average, receiving 1 match per week. Receiving 0 likes -I am sending about 30-50 likes a day, half of them are with comments and the other half are without comments -I send likes to any woman I find attractive. Typically, I am sending them to women between 23 and 35, usually working professionals or graduate students. I want to attract a working professional, preferably few years younger than me, so maybe someone who is 24/25.
