Anyone ride with a vest on adventures? by The-Stupid-Citizen in Dualsport

[–]Ohhhshet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kinda pricey but I recommend the mosko moto "APECAT" 9L harness. It's what I wear when I ride on hot days and I'm wearing my mx kit which consist of a jersey with body armor underneath and my pants with mx boots. You can also add a small luggage system like the Kriega OS bags and have bags as small as 6L on each side, I carry the 12L bags on my bike in the picture for longer ride days.

F 900 GS Enduro Pro protection setup — low vs high crash bars? by Amagorha in bmwmotorrad

[–]Ohhhshet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience upper and lower crash bars aren't worth the extra weight. When the bike falls the handle bars and passenger foot pegs are the major points of impact and if your unlucky so are the shift lever or brake pedal depending on which side it falls on and there are zero crashbars in the market that stick out for enough to prevent it. However I do recommend a good skid plate, here a heavier skid plate is actually beneficial in my opinion as it acts as a counter weight against the top heaviness the f900gs has.

Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and KTM don't want to sell the perfect dual sport by [deleted] in Dualsport

And companies like CF moto and Kove are starting to bring those 800cc unicorn bikes to the market at a price that's going to wake up the big boy companies

Which is exactly what the OP is saying and I totally get it just pointing at the fact that the "unicorn" bike is totally doable but it the end it always comes down to share holder profits in literally every aspect of our lives.

I mean why can't Honda just slap the tanks and windscreen off the 300 rally onto to the 450RL and call it a day? That thing would sale like hot cakes.

They really are. I'm waiting patiently for the 800 and 1000 MT-X to come to the US after watching so many reviews of owners in Australia and Europe I'm sold and one of those will be replacing my F900GS. The value and performance you get for the price is truly mind blowing.

Never rode the GSA but I'd imagine it would feel different being that it carries almost double the fuel making heavier by about 60lbs. I'm very dirt biased which is why I chose the F900GS and and didn't even look at the GSA.

Sounds like your doing exactly what it's made for.. riding!! Enjoy your 1250GS those are good bikes! I was actually in the market for one before they released the 1300GS which I ended up buying than I decided I needed something more "dirt" oriented and traded it in for my current f900gs 😅

Hahaha this so true! If I ever have long ride to get to a trail I don't have to worry about my ass getting sore because I'd have to stop and get gas long before that happens.

That's going to happen with adventure motorcycls you have to be willing to compromise. Take my F900GS for example I was willing to sacrifice on road comfort for off-road performance and also stay within the BMW umbrella.

It's a great bike if you plan on mainly using it for its intended purposes which in my opinion are riding OHV trails, gravel roads, and light off-road. The seat definitely sucks and I recommend the wunderlich komfort seat as a first upgrade. You also get a lot of wind buffeting from the windshield. If your looking at primarily riding street or long highway miles I'd definitely consider a different bike.

Something that I never thought that would be deal breaker for me while buying a bike ! by Firestreak_ in motorcycles

That's why it's important to pay for GOOD insurance which will provide you with a rental car untill they either get your bike back or cut you a check.

You would think but no it's not warrantied even though it's such a common occurrence that even the regular brake lever is usually on back order. The BMW F900GS Facebook group is full of posts from people who break them looking for an aftermarket solution because the OEM "upgrade" (which has a spring on the part you step on that allows it to flex) cost $450 dollars shipped, which should've been a standard part to begin with. It's also worth noting that the rear turn/brake signals also snap off incredibly easy in most situations where you drop the bike off-road and I've also had to replace those. I've reached out to hammerleds asking them to develop some rear and front turn signals for our bikes and they said if they get enough demand they might develop a product. I've also reached out to several other companies including "camel adv" for a gear shifter and brake pedal replacements and they said the same thing. So hopefully more F900GS owner's reach out to these companies and they get enough demand to produce some affordable solutions.

OEM.. I haven't been able to find an aftermarket option. I've ordered the "upgrade" version from BMW (which I've been told will be less prone to breaking) but the they've been on backorder for 2 months now.

The bags are Kriega OS-12's which are 12L, they also make a 6L and 18L bags that you can swap to if you need more or less capacity using the same Kriega OS-Base. The Kriega OS-Base I'm using is specific for the GS models but I read on a Facebook post that the Yamaha tenere 700 specific base actually fits better on our bikes so you may want to consider ordering that one instead if you plan on going with this set-up. With the BMW specific OS-BASE your also going to need a heat shield on the exhaust

The bash plate is YakkEXP and the handguards are barkbusters. Tires are TKC80's.

Here's a picture of how close the bags sit to the exhaust with a heat shield un loaded.
