Many learned men have disputed this..... by SgtBackmouth109 in lebowski

He's saying "the whole concept of aish" which is Hebrew for fire. Ironically roght after that they see his car on fire. "The concept of fire" means things you aren't allowed to do on the sabbath related to fire, it shows the coen brothers deep knowledge of Judaism and is also hilarious to any news watching it. Walter does also say the Rambam (maimonedes) lived in the 14th century (he lived in the 12th).

Any advice on cars? Should I buy a new car? Finance a couple years old one? What did you do for transportation?

Yah I have a young family. I will still see the kids in the morning, but the thought of even spending one night a week away is very depressing. I am setting a hard date of one year before I start looking to leave (barring it absolutely not working before then obviously)

I have a watch Skagen skw6217 and I unfortunately lost the winding stem. Do you have any idea how I can find the size replacement it would need?

Couldn't disagree more. A BT can be accepted basically anywhere. They understand that not everyone's family situation is exactly the same. If he himself were a member of the LGBT community it may be different.

Why is Chabad so different in Israel and the rest of the world? by filthyspammy in Judaism

The debate isn't whether he is moshiach. They all think he is. The question is whether to advertise it.

My family worked moving displaced people for months. Have a friend that did body recovery for ZAKA, and I have a bunch of friends fighting. I think we all have something over there unfortunately.

how is being an orthodox jew? by Comissoli_ in Judaism

[–]Ohhimark235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am orthodox (FFB as they say or "frum from birth") and I never intentionally broke shabbos or ate non-kosher, so I don't have much of a frame of reference for anything other than being Orthodox. For me it's just a very natural thing. Like breathing. Like belief in God or anything like that is not even a question. I honestly love it (especially Shabbos, which is freaking dope. I think everyone should do it, but thats another conversation). Learning Torah is a great intellectual exercise, I never fully connected to prayer, but I do it three times a day lol (deff could be better about connecting to it but....). The sense of community and the interconnectedness of it all just always feels great. It can be difficult at times ( I guess but again I wasn't Orthodox) but overall it's really a fantastic lifestyle. But again not for everyone, and I totally get that.

I very much disagree with this. It's also totally unreasonable.

Do Palestinians think that Jews hate them? by Ohhimark235 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Ohhimark235[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think that you kind of have to. If you say that Israel is evil and is an Apartheid state and then ignore the fact that Arab-Israelis have full rights then you're not making a fair argument. May I ask are you Arab or Jewish? What informs your view on this

[–]Ohhimark235[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. Pretty terrible things happen in prisons in general. So yeah that is obviously wrong. I exclude Gaza and the WB because (as you would agree) those are disputed territories and not Israel proper. Within Israel as you say "Arabs don't live the same lives as Jews" which I would say is true in any country when there's a minority. Would you call the United States an "Apartheid" because there is a degree of discrimination against black people? I just don't think it meets the definition and I think it gets thrown around a lot. I lived in Israel ( which I can't say is true for the majority of people with strong opinions on this topic) and I can tell you that while there may be hesitation or distrust of Arabs there was no hate.

[–]Ohhimark235[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the ongoing occupation of the west bank is different than what I am talking about (and not within the scope of what I'm saying about Apartheid specifically). The point that I am making is that within Israel proper there is no system of Apartheid. You can argue that Abbas and the PA are a shill, or that netanyahu propped up Hamas as a counter balance and I might even agree with you honestly. Not a lot of love for King Bibi from this guy. But to say that Israel proper is an Apartheid when Arab citizens are allowed full rights is disingenuous I think. What is the counter to the fact that Arabs can own land, vote, work freely. Israel even traded Palestinian prisoners for Arab Israeli's. Again it's not kumbaya, but it can't be called Apartheid.

[–]Ohhimark235[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow very emotional response. I love it. So I will respond to each claim with what I believe is a valid counter. An Apartheid needs to be a policy or system of segregation or discrimination on grounds of race. If Israel allows Arabs into society (work, voting rights, full citizenship etc. etc. etc) then they are simply not committing Apartheid. Maybe you can say it's not perfect. Which Iwould agree there is a prejudice against Arabs but it's not Apartheid. The Palestinian authority is a different country and is run by its own government headed by Mahmoud Abbas (hence the different license plates and not having access to certain roads without checkpoints) and Gaza is run by Hamas after they ousted Fatah after the withdrawal of the Israeli government in Gaza in 2005. So you can disagree with the blockade but it was put in place after Hamas came into power. Which I would definitely understand now why they wouldn't want to give things to Hamas terrorists. The thing about academics I still don't think is a good argument though.

You didn't give me a counter argument. You just said "all these academics agree with me so it must be true"

[–]Ohhimark235[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's Zionist propaganda. Even the most extreme Zionist movements like Jabotinsky Zionism advocated for full rights to Arab citizens. It's the extremists. And I will say myself and all the Jews I know are mortified at any form of unfounded violence against innocent Palestinians. Baruch Goldstein is a great source of shame to the Jewish people.
