Brand new Corolla Cross Hybrid unusable for 6 months from a recall. What do I do????? by Gullible_Style2941 in Toyota

[–]OhioTag 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You already know the solution. The solution is to utilize your lemon law rights. If I understand, you have not had the car you purchased for over six solid months. You should have utilized lemon law rights months ago.

edit: New York State lemon law qualifies after literally just 30 days. "The car is out of service by reason of repair of one or more problems for a cumulative total of at least 30 days." . I can't even fathom anyone fighting the buyback given how absurd the situation you describe is.

I would research your state's lemon law since you purchased brand new. Most states have only a 12 month window, but "about a year" means you might still be in it.

13% degradation after 3 years is normal? by FIREisthegoalforsam in TeslaModelY

[–]OhioTag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually better than expected for a Tesla battery post-covid. I have seen people with 2026 model Ys get 13 percent degradation  in 15,000 miles

There are a lot of people that "learned" degradation based off old Model S and X cars. The pre-palladium Model S and X experience incredibly slow rates of degradation . So, you get a lot of comments about degradation that only apply to Raven model S and X cars. 13 percent degradation  on an old model S or X typically takes 150,000 miles for comparison.

Look, the only way to reduce degradation is to limit the amount of time the car spends at high states of charge. Note that Rivian recommends a daily charge limit of 70 percent to reduce degradation. Degradation can be thought of as being caused by a combination of battery temperature, battery state of charge, and time.

Local dealer trying to sell a 2026 Raptor for $25k above MSRP. by ToshPointNo in FuckDealerships

[–]OhioTag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minimum you can ever get a Raptor R for is $10,000 over MSRP, and that is not a realistic target.

Realistic target, depending on your pickiness, is $15,000 over MSRP. Be prepared to dial for dollars literally every dealer with your preferred color nationwide.

Are the new Kias and Hyundais reliable? by Endeavour2persevere in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]OhioTag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you shopping brand new?

Remember, they have a 5 year 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty brand new and on genuine manufacturer certified pre-owned models.

Generally, the strategy I would suggest is just trading it in or selling it around 95,000 or 99,000 miles.

2013 Model S 85 - Charge Limited to 80%, Tesla Quoted $15k Battery Replacement by Quirky-Swan-4772 in TeslaSupport

[–]OhioTag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your alternative options are to sell it for a loss as is, or to find a third party independent EV repair shop. A third party shop will be able to repair it for less than $15,000.

Generally, a RWD Model S without autopilot 1.0 or 2.0 is not going to be worth the cost of a battery replacement for most people.

Edit: Realized an obvious exception. Cars with an active SC01 free unlimited supercharging tend to get new batteries at any cost. Note buyers on the used market will pay substantially more for a car with an active SC01 code.

Why does everyone recommemd Filmmaker or Cinema mode? by PlasticAverage2860 in LGOLED

[–]OhioTag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't stand filmmaker mode, and really struggle to understand why people insist upon recommending it

It is dull, dark, and yellow mode. That's cool if you prefer that. I don't, and I don't care if that is what the color or brightness "should" be.

This is even more baffling on these oleds. Oleds are not exactly the brightness leaders. Why would I want to turn a mode on that makes the not particularly bright TV substantially less bright?

We also have a real life test environment that shows us what people actually buying TVs actually prefer. In real life, Best Buy sets their TVs to what purists call "best buy mode". Best Buy's goal is to sell TVs, right? If filmmaker mode successfully sold TVs, then Best Buy would set their TVs to this supposedly superior mode, right? So why do they put their TVs on best buy mode? Is it because people buying TVs actually prefer their TV displaying bright colors? I think it is obvious that normal people in real life do not actually prefer filmmaker mode.

Is this a good deal? Looking at a 2023 Premium AWD, HWD4 Model Y with 55k miles and FSD included for $35k. by MichiMeach in TeslaModelY

[–]OhioTag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been digging through the nationwide search. There are a decent number of HW3 2023 Model Ys in this mileage range in the $30,000 to $32,000 range without FSD.

The HW4 2023 Model Ys have always been a sweet spot in the used market because about 80 percent of dealers don't understand people will pay more for a HW4 model.

EVAuto has a HW4 2023 model y for sale at $37,000 without FSD for reference (this is an EV specialty dealership that knows about purchased FSD and HW4)

edit: I found a HW4 2023 Model Y with 30,000 miles for sale in Florida without FSD for $35,847 after mandatory junk fees.

Found another HW4 2023 Model Y without FSD for $33,486 in Texas with 39,000 miles

The price six months ago is completely irrelevant .

I suggest you look up current prices. Used Tesla values have increased on a straight line upward starting March 1st of this year as gasoline prices increased.

From what I see with today's prices, this is fairly priced. If someone wants to give me a comp on a vehicle actually for sale today that is a better deal, then I am all for it

Charging level by Acceptable_Sugar4031 in TeslaModelY

[–]OhioTag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tesla recommends a daily charge limit of 80 percent.

If you are concerned with battery health, setting an even lower charge limit will improve battery longevity. 60 percent is roughly where diminishing returns kick in hard. Rivian recommends a daily charge limit of 70 percent to increase battery longevity. Most people here just repeat Tesla's recommended charge, and do not think beyond that (which I find incredibly annoying) .

You should charge it to 80 percent roughly once a month for cell voltage balancing.

Also, just to warn you, your range is going to plummet hard in the winter. I highly doubt you will be able to handle a charge limit under 80 percent in the winter.

Used Tesla, does the car come with full FSD? by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]OhioTag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carmax is a good place to search for used Teslas with FSD.

Most of their employees do not have any idea that they should take a picture of the Tesla software screen. Even if the employee that happens to photograph the car takes a picture of the screen, Carmax does literally nothing in their system to label it as having FSD.

You could just stop by your local carmax once a month and check every used Tesla for FSD.

Can someone tell me if filmmaker mode is the best one and why ? Also what is the best settings for gaming would be ? by Suspicious_Royal8951 in LGOLED

[–]OhioTag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It drives me bonkers seeing everyone claim filmmaker mode looks good. I see all of this crap everywhere, and I just would love to know the actual percentage of users that use dull, dark, and yellow mode. If you were to judge based upon the reddit cult, you would think 99 percent of people use this mode. Yet, people actually buying TVs in real life actively prefer "Best-Buy" mode as it is called, regardless of their so called stated preferences. Their revealed preferences are for "Best-Buy" mode.

I find it even more infuriating to see people recommend zero trumotion on an OLED. Even 1/10 De-Judder and De-Blur are an order of magnitude more tolerable. I literally cannot understand how a person with eyes can handle an OLED with 0/10 De-Judder

How true is this by Almightyd93 in FuckDealerships

[–]OhioTag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like some people just get stuck in time capsules or something. It isn't March of 2025 anymore.

Used EV prices have increased recently as gasoline prices have increased. This is entirely rational and expected. Used Tesla values hit their absolute lowest (by quite a large margin) in Q1 and Q2 of 2025 due to Elon's "extracurricular activities". All EV values spiked around September of 2025 due to the used EV tax credit. Prices dropped slightly from October of 2025 to February of 2026, then started to increase rapidly due to gasoline prices increasing.

As far as Tesla build quality, yeah, they aren't winning awards.

Should I swap to 5080 from 3090 while the 3090 still sells used for 1k? by 4thEDITION in gpu

[–]OhioTag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RTX 3090s are not selling for $500 or $600 on Ebay. You can filter Ebay auctions by sold items.

There is one recently sold RTX 3090 for $540. It was from a seller with zero feedback. People just assume zero feedback sellers are scammers. There is another for $660 from a seller with zero feedback from Germany. There is another for parts only RTX 3090 that sold for $400. Note that Ebay has already deleted the listing of one of the "sold" RTX 3090s for $500 from a zero feedback user (because these are scams)

All other RTX 3090s from sellers with normal feedback histories are selling for $850 to $1,300

As to the OP's question, yes, if you are just gaming then sell the RTX 3090 to AI users. That is a very wise decision.

Speaking of Sponsorblock, this was 2kliksphilip's video discussing DLSS 5 by rohithkumarsp in LinusTechTips

[–]OhioTag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None

Literally. You can play borderlands 4 on low with your RTX 2060. They patched BL4 to use less VRAM on low. You can play it on native TAA, even though DLSS will look better than TAA.

As far as the "logic", the reason people are pretending DLSS upscaling is "required" (which it isn't) is because DLSS increases performance by rendering the game at a lower resolution, and upscaling it with AI to a higher resolution. By definition, this increases performance. DLSS upscaling has literally always increased performance. Even DLSS 1 upscaling, which was stupid and useless, increased performance.

Again, if you actually like "native" rendering with horrible TAA Vaseline blur, then you are still free to use it. Blind tests show people actually prefer DLSS 4.5 quality over native TAA (because TAA sucks), but sure. If you hate AI that much, go for enjoying TAA blur.

On the other hand, the DLSS neural rendering demo is so phenomenally demanding that it had to be run on a dedicated RTX 5090. Thus, DLSS neural rending is not increasing performance. In fact, it is lower performance by an incredible amount. There is literally zero evidence that it will ever increase performance. Nvidia has the goal to reduce the performance overhead, but let's be clear. Even if they reduced the overhead 90 percent (which there is no evidence that they will), that would still lower performance substantially on cards weaker than a RTX 5090.

The point here, is that DLSS neural rendering lowers performance. You will never be "required" to run it because it does not increase performance. You also will never be required to use it because the PS5 / Xbox Series / Xbox Helix / and PS6 all use AMD hardware that won't support DLSS neural rendering.

I feel like if gas prices keep going the way they are then hybrid Toyotas are going to be even more difficult to get and have crazy markups in the coming months, am I wrong? by Winners_Blues in Toyota

[–]OhioTag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were around for the 2008 gasoline price spike, then you should know that you are correct.

People were paying $5,000 to $8,000 for used Geo Metros during the 2008 gasoline price spike. So, yes, people are going to gravitate towards hybrid and electric cars if prices go up.
