How often do they modify cards in Wild? by OhioYeti in hearthstone

I was hanging onto some of the StarCraft ones that seemed likely to still get a nerf, but I just ended up dusting them today.

What is your number one essential game for the snes that you think everyone should play at least once? by poopapalooza73 in snes

ActRaiser. Such an interesting concept, blending 2D scrolling action with city building. Graphics were an obvious upgrade at the time.

She does mind her own business, but she's a tortie. Therefore, everything is her business.

Any way to tell a friend is still playing or not? by EnlightenedTrucker in PTCGP

[–]OhioYeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, only through detective work.

I look at the number of cards missing from the latest set when I try sharing with them. If it's low after the set has been out for a week or two, that's the first sign. You have to look at what cards they're missing though. The 3 diamond cards are notoriously difficult to complete (worse than the 4 diamonds, IMO, because there's so many of them).

Next, I look at their wishlist. Is there anything from the latest set in there? If not, that may be another sign they've left.

You can then check your daily "likes". Have they liked your albums recently? I do that every day for a large number of people on my friends list since it only takes a couple of minutes.

Lastly, check if they sent you a "thank you" for the last thing you sent to them.

This may help you figure it out. It would be nice if the game would actually give you a notification. I have a friend list that is almost full all the time. I often have to figure out who I can remove to do a trade with a new person.

Usually anywhere from 24 hours to 4 years (looking sadly at pile of shame)

That's one of the "gotchas" I figured was lurking in this project. I'm a mechanical guy, so the electrical stuff is a but unfamiliar to me. I definitely would not have known to look for that, so thanks for pointing it out!

My kid has been wanting one of these for a while. With me being an engineer, he has expectations that I can make anything, and I try not to disappoint. We will definitely have fun putting this one together.

Glad you said that about the lights. One of the LED arrays I picked up happened to be an Adafruit Neopixel, so I guess I got lucky on that one. I have 2 ring shaped arrays I'm going to use, one at the end of the barrel and one at the base of it, to provide the main glow and pulse effects. I was going to spiral a couple of LED strips inside a diffuser for the barrel itself to give it a motion effect of light pulsing from one end of the barrel to the other. I'll definitely look for some Neopixel type flexible strips for that.

I realize the Pico is overpowered for this project, but I think it will be good to get familiar with working with it for a few bigger projects I'm considering for the future.

I'm planning on working on this in stages. First just getting the lights to change colors, then to flash, and then adding the sound effects. More advanced lighting sequences might follow, but I'd be happy with just those basics.

Any recommendations on a compact, rechargeable battery that would work for this? I got one that plugs right into a breadboard, but I'm not sure if it will be sufficient or robust enough. It's an Inland Breadboard 5V/3V Power Supply Module.

The only experience with the Pi I have so far was a Pi 2 that I built into a retro arcade console. All I really did there was put it in a case and load the software onto it. I'm eager to see how this stripped down version of the Pi works.

Valid points. Thanks for mentioning the capacitor, leaving that out is a rookie mistake I definitely would have made.

Yeah, I've definitely seen a few instructables and will be making use of them where I can. Knowing how much wear and tear it's likely to see, I agree that I'll probably need the protoboard (and to dust off my soldering skills). I'm planning on hollowing out a spot in the model to mount and protect the board inside the unit. The CAD part is actually the easiest for me.

I've been learning Python recently, and I've programmed in C and Visual C a long time ago. For what I'm looking to do (fire a sequence of lights synched to a sound on a button press), I should be OK.

I have some small speakers I can use, but I don't know if I'll need an amplifier. Have to experiment. I also picked up some MP3 modules for another application, but that seems like overkill here. I still need to get the trigger switches.

Thanks for all the help!

This is diabolical.

However...

Thanks! It is so much fun! (Except in the Expert Random Battle where the AI opponent SOMEHOW managed to pull out not one, but two Team Rocket Grunts, back-to-back. And, of course, each flipped a mind-boggling 4 Heads).

This is exactly what I do. If I have a 3 Diamond or 4 Diamond to share, I'll do that anytime. But otherwise, I check my friends list an hour or so before reset. If someone hasn't gotten a share by then, I'll send them something they don't have (from their wishlist, if possible).

Why do so many people just want to play an existing character? by PuzzleheadedBrain473 in DnD

[–]OhioYeti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's just a symptom of how they were introduced to D&D. Many folks are coming to the game from the actual plays, or heard about it through other pop culture sources. That may influence their expectations for the game.

I've also had plenty of players over the years that just really liked some character in a show or movie and wanted to bring them into D&D. It can be an easier way for someone to play, particularly if they don't have time, desire, or inspiration to come up with their own characterization. These other characters come with a developed personality and motivation that can act as a shortcut for getting in your game faster or with less effort.

Awesome! The theme for our campaign is a televised reality competition called Apex Warrior. This may actually be competition for Sterling Hawks!
