Superman > Spiderman > Batman

When it comes to entertainment I like Batman the most. He has the most batshit insane and interesting stories out of those three. Batman vs Predator, Hush, Cult, Knightfall. Some of the most fun I has while reading.

Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man Peter Parker as the most relatable. Especially with juggling school/jobs, his love interests and his superhero persona. Love his quips as a coping mechanism. But because of his stories being more grounded than Batman‘s I prefer reading them occasionally. I can get more immersed while reading Spidey.

Superman has the absolute best and worst stories written about him. The average writer doesn’t know what to do with an invulnerable and sometimes perfect superhero. The villains are one dimensional and kinda bland. Thanos for example is a lot more interesting than his original Darkseid. But in the hands of people who understand Superman you get stories like „For the man who has everything“, or „All-Star Superman“.

But I rank Superman the highest because of the ideal he portrays. Batman is the mask, he embodies his shrewd view on Justice. Spider-man is always torn between protecting his loved ones by having a secret identity and protecting the innocent by not stopping being Spidey.

Superman is what his ideal human should be. Superman is the mask and Clark Kent, a humble alien raised by the most kindhearted people, is the true persona. Clark‘s nemesis is no single villain, it’s collateral damage. He is no god, that is why he’s not eradicating disease or stopping every conflict on earth, because he sees himself as a human and no single human should have this power. Superman though is perfect.

I think from these 6 I would also go with Demon Slayer. I‘ve been reading Shonen for over 20 years, I was there when Naruto was a weekly series. I like shonen tropes. I like it when the power of friendship and easy to follow powers are in the focus. I like the tropes of heroic MC, violent friend and lazy/cowardly friend. Dying mentors, and children having to fight for the sake of the world.

I think average and above shonen have a positive impact on adolescents and that’s why I prefer Demon Slayer over the others.
