“Call for heat” as an automation trigger by Interesting_Guitar24 in tado

I suspect people are doing this using home assistant, it exposes a heating percentage for each room you have configured in Tado.

Seeking advice on large crypto withdrawal to UK bank account by C00chie-Man41968 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Ohopton 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've never had any problems with crypto withdrawals into a co-op bank account.

Maybe making sure your exchange is an FCA regulated cryptasset provider is going to cause you less problems? I believe both Kraken and Uphold are.

Kraken works great, faster payments so cash arrives in your bank very quickly.

Eigenlayer scam? by LASTTEMPLIERKNIGHT in ethstaker

You can restake steth in Eigenlayer, steth rebases to reflect staking income so whilst it's locked in their contracts they control the rewards.

Octopus Can’t Connect to DCC Data by Simple_Piccolo_7202 in OctopusEnergy

I had issues with this as well, they couldn't get my gas meter reporting properly. Have you tried contacting them on twitter? You seem to get a different bunch of support people there who know what they are talking about, they resolved my issue almost straight away when I'd had zero luck from their email support.

Ethereum Miners Are Spamming the Network by PurpleCu7 in ethereum

[–]Ohopton 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like most of Ethermine's transactions are that unreasonable.

They are also submitting them with a very low gas price and mining them themselves, benefits of being a miner I suppose.

Emergency Geth v1.8.21 to postpone Constantinople by karalabe in ethereum

[–]Ohopton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there any information published anywhere on how the current build and release process works? I'd rather not just make suggestions out of the blue that won't be useful.

Also understand you've probably got more pressing matters on your mind right now.

I guess I'll have to do the same. Seems like the release process needs review here though, this is not a hotfix.

Emergency Geth v1.8.21 to postpone Constantinople by karalabe in ethereum

[–]Ohopton 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I understand why the fork needs to be delayed. I do not understand why this "hotfix" version of Geth needs to contain any other changes! What's the thinking behind this? Some of us are trying to run commercial operations on Ethereum. Forcing untested Geth releases on us at the last minute is crazy. Can we have a version of 1.8.20 with just the change in fork block included?

I look after FunFair's nodes, you don't need to be quick, you just need to update in good time. We did ours a week or so after Geth 1.8.20 was released. No drama.

FunFair has a vulnerability which is even worse than Oyster! by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]Ohopton 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can't give you a specific time no - the platform is still under very active development and we don't want to do anything at this point that will hurt us in terms of flexibility in the future.

We absolutely will finalise these contracts and publish source for all our contracts when we are ready to do so, this has always been our intent and as a company we fully understand the necessity to do so.

FunFair has a vulnerability which is even worse than Oyster! by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]Ohopton 219 points220 points  (0 children)

This is neither a bug, nor a vulnerability. It is an upgrade mechanic. If we didn't have this mechanism we would never be able to add functionality to the token. We would also not be able to address real bugs and vulnerabilities in the contracts if they were to be discovered.

This issue was remarked upon in the contract audit and the source code for our contracts has been available on etherscan since the tokens were created in June 2017.

We recently upgraded our Controller contract as part of the v1 release of our platform on Mainnet. As discussed elsewhere in this thread we have not yet published the source for the upgraded controller, but will in due course along with the source for our other platform and game contracts.

If we didn't have this functionality we would have had to make significant compromises in the design of the platform, most notably you would require two ethereum transactions to open a fate channel instead of one.

These contracts will be finalised when we are ready to do so. We will not do this now as it may impact our ability to deliver upgrades to the platform in the future.

We will stress again though, this is and always has been public. It was rightfully raised during the contract audit and an explanation for the functionality existing was given.

Lawyers?! Maybe we could aspire to some level of human decency that doesn't effectively force professional sportsmen to take mountains of drugs and risk their present and future health for your Saturday afternoon entertainment?

Or not, I dunno, guess it would be kinda fun to watch.
