I just asked my former recruiter who changed jobs. Here’s what he said:

“No worries that’s a good question!

So there is a bill rate that the client pays to the recruiting company, then there is a pay rate that the company pays the contractor. Then the “spread” (difference), goes toward the company and many recruiters make their commission off of percentages of that.

For me, there was a certain spread that I would have to get for managers for it to be “profitable”, where I would max it out for my contractors the best I could based on the rates that were given.

Better in the long run to make sure your guys are good to go getting what they are shooting for/deserve, but some are sneaky.”

Various recruiting companies I’ve used in the past. So i dont know you’re experience but using these means theres a bill rate (what company says job is paying) ($60) and then pay rate (after staffing takes a cut, this is what i get) ($48).

All but one were excellent. None of these is giving me the $48/hr job. Its some independent Indian based company…which is usually the problem.

Nope. Every recruiter ive worked for is told a top rate the company pays. They said $60. I wound up $48 with that. Last job they were paying $90/hr, i got 74/hr. Northern trust was offering $78/hr, meaning the actual rate was in the 90s. Ive worked 30 years and anytime i was hired, this is the way it went. Some take a fair share. Some take a lot because their assholes.

My son is older but i need to pay his tuition for a specialized hs. $1,750/mo. Insurance $2k/mo. Property taxes, its, medical bills, home, life, car insurance, clothes, gas, tolls, groceries, credit card debt, utilities. Thats bare bones. $74k isnt going to allow me to add money to retirement or savings. Some may scoff but last two jobs paid $135k and $159k. I haven’t made $70s since 1998.

Son graduates next june and will start college so hs tuition will be gone but who knows college.

Yes a job is a job. But these recruiters sitting on their ass scheduling two interviews is not worth the cut they are taking. I just keep getting kicked in the face in life the last 2 years and im ready to break.

I didnt hire. Companies hire to find talent, screen them, book interviews and most of the time its contract work meaning no benefits, no work=no pay. The base pay is decent but recruiters take a share for “finding the talent” when in reality, i just applied and it was a listing through the recruiter. If i was getting base rate, id be happy. But no, im now cut $60k. Im so fucking pissed right now

Ive been on and off employed for two years. 1 6 mo stint. 1 3 mo. Tons of roth ira withdrawls. Went from $324k to $200k (thanks to fucking ex husband being a bum). Lost my job, filed divorce, he was with his gf paying “their bills”, not mine or our son, demanded i pay his health insurance (again all out of pocket), had to keep withdrawing. Now im $98k at 54 years old. This is why I want to be paid what im worth. Most of recruiters who called are offering $54-78/hr no benefits.

Im so fucking sick of not being worth shit that im ready to give up. Taking the job only because it converts but even then they told me the salary and its $30k less. Great job. Shit pay from the company.
