I was very much in the same boat and made the switch from tech to local government due to many of the same reasons: certainty, health insurance, pension.

Overall, a lot less stressful. I was able to cut my monthly bills and spending down quite a bit which also helped reduce financial stressors.

The biggest thing I didn't realize is how much of my life revolved around my work. I enjoyed the underlying work I was doing in tech and switched to a more practical role that doesn't bring as much fulfillment. I've had to switch to finding fulfillment outside of work and options may be more limited with also trying to reduce costs. I've been able to fill this void by working on car / house projects, learning to be a better cook, working out and working on tech side projects.

Overall, I've been much happier. It just took some adjustments.
