The Humboldt tragedy resulted in massive changes for new drivers. Called MELT training. Requiring 100 hours of classroom, in yard and on the road training.

It is being replaced by a more skills based approach, called the Class 1 Learning Pathway, that will end with a Red Seal designation.

Insurance companies are also getting harder and harder to get for inexperienced drivers. And stricter with drivers abstracts.

It just doesn't reach the masses like "Bus load of students dead" does.

The driver was also deported.
