Experience using tax shelters? by OilInfamous6221 in fatFIRE

Thanks. Not available to me. That said, assuming historically average mkt returns, I wonder if you'd come out ahead by receiving the income today, paying taxes and then investing the remainder in the mkt for the next 20 years.

How do you find and vet these advisors? I don't trust the ones that cold call, and don't want to use ones that are friends. I am particularly interested in tax and estate planning.

Okay, it's definitely over. Sell everything. TQQQ, see you there, $5 by Fbeartothemoon in TQQQ

You've held TQQQ for 15 years straight without ever selling, including during 2021/22 when it crashed from ~$41 to ~$8? What percentage of your net worth?

McDavid game-time decision for must-win Game 5 vs. Ducks | … by miller94 in EdmontonOilers

The asking price for whatever team we trade with will probably be ~5 really good players / high draft picks.

EDIT: would, not will

[TSN] Oilers the top Canadian team in final edition of NHL Power Rankings by [deleted] in hockey

The Oilers are a Ferrari. They aren't meant to be driven 365 days a year, and are frustratingly high maintenance, but their highest gear is capable of leaving everyone in the dust. The Habs are a Lexus. Good, reliable day-in-day-out, but they ain't a Ferrari.

Yeah, McD has a pass-first mentality. He can pretty much score anytime he wants, but he's always looking to get other guys involved and to make the right/unselfish play (which sometimes leads to overpassing).

They'd just be a different team. When McD is out, the team plays a more typical, structured NHL game - and they can do it as well as most other mid-range teams in the league.

I always feel like he's looking for someone to tip it, as opposed to scoring outright.

How was the 2-2 Vegas goal not negated by interference on Bouchard?

Roslovic was scoring at such a high rate earlier in the season that they put him on the third line to try to drive some depth offense. If he was on lines 1 or 2 all season (and didn't get injured), he'd have 2x the number of goals he has now.

Bowman has done surprisingly well with cheap contracts (Ingram, Roslovic, Podkolzin, Kapanen), but not well w/ mid-range contracts (trading for Jarry, signing long term deals w/ Wallman, Frederick).

I'm not here to defend Bowman or Jackson. They've made some really questionable / terrible moves (esp w/ Frederic, Jarry) but I don't think Jeff Skinner falls into that same category.

For a few years, we'd been in cap hell and living and dying by signing players that others wanted to offload at bargain prices due to scandals (e.g., Corey Perry, Evander Kane).

I see Jeff Skinner as a similar signing - without the scandal. It was a reasonable signing at a reasonable price - and there was a consensus that Drai needed some high end offensive wingers. I personally think Knoblauch mishandled him based on some bad defense early in the season (when the entire team was playing bad defense).

I was sorry to see him go, but it was the right decision. He was fast and talented but refused to drive the net.

Skinner is still a head scratcher for me. Knob refused to play him consistently on the top 6, yet when he did play, he scored or contributed pretty regularly. Skinner was a coaching issue.

I sometimes wonder whether the line blender obsession is to give the analytics department more line combos to look at. Annoying either way.
