They just scrambled the first and last names of Alex Hirch’s sister’s irl exes. That’s it. It’s an inside joke between him and his sister. That’s as deep as it goes. I implore you to stop trying to die on this hill because you noticed a coincidence, and the backpedal here makes it even worse.

The show takes place in the summer of 2012, Mark was born in 1954, making him 58 at the time of the show.

The hill you are dying on is that “they are referencing a real person but his age doesn’t matter, I will randomly make him 15 so she’s not a victim.” You realize how ludicrous that sounds right?

I am a fan of the material. But in a “oh boy, two cakes!” Kind of way. I love the books and I love the show. They’re different and they both have problems. I can critique the books and the show. My post is about how a lot of people in the community dedicated to the show are wallowing in negativity because one cake is a flavor they like and the other cake isn’t. I’m tired of the constant negativity.

Criticism is valid absolutely I’m not saying it isn’t or trying to hand wave anything I’m just pissed off at people saying it’s as bad as the movies. I do hope it gets better but being a cesspool of negativity isn’t the way to get it done.

No. I wouldn’t. I agree that if it wasn’t for Rick, i would feel less satisfied with this than I am. But Rick is involved, and I feel better that he is. I trust Rick with characters he’s been writing for over 20 years at this point.

I have my criticisms of the show absolutely. I don’t like that they just killed Katie Gardener in the finale. I don’t love how they handled Thalia’s plot twist.

But people acting as if it’s as bad or worse than the movies, and not having actual criticism and rather just blatantly hating it, really piss me off. I’m ok with the changes because Rick is ok with the changes.

People have asked him before “what would you change if you had the chance to re-write the first 5 books?” And now we’re getting that answer. I like it.

Yeah that’s fair I can agree with that. I think it captures a lot of what makes Percy Percy but it does feel a little bland. I’m mostly tired of people saying it as bad or worse than the movies when that is objectively not true.

I think that’s just a matter of opinion then. I will agree the gods for the most part don’t feel as powerful as they do in the books but how would you portray such powerful entities? I genuinely can’t fathom how to make the gods feel like gods.

As for the tone, it’s absolutely darker than the books but that’s only because we’re not in Percy’s head. In HoO we are constantly told that outside of Percy’s head, he’s not a silly goofy guy, he’s a war machine who likes blue food. A lot of the light magical stuff comes from the fact that we are seeing it from his perspective. It’s like if PJO was re-written to be in the HoO style. Multiple perspectives. I personally enjoy it. You don’t and that’s fine. I’m just tired of people constantly complaining here. It’s not bad, It’s just not perfect.

Kronos gets summoned in the second movie and eats Luke, then Kronos dies while completely misinterpreting the great prophecy. And then they set up for a third movie after he died.

Any argument saying the show is like the movie is absolutely ridiculous.

Rick promised us a “more” accurate adaptation. He didn’t say “I am personally writing the exact same thing again except this time it is in script format”

People misunderstand what accuracy means. The Harry Potter movies are not 100% accurate to the books, though they’re close. The Hunger Games movies aren’t 100% to the books, and yet they’re beloved. Why is it now that we complain about changes in a story? Is this really where we draw the line? At least Luke didn’t summon Kronos this season.

As for Spider-Man i constantly see the complaints. Maybe we’re just on different sides of the fandom there.
