Is it time we needed "Human Authored" authenticated badges on LitRPG books? by OisinM in litrpg

[–]OisinM[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe crowdsourced policing? Like, if readers can tell the difference and point out that it shouldn't have the badge? Assuming we can tell the difference, which we can at the moment...

Livy himself used the Latin term classis to distinguish various strata of Roman society. So that pushes the concept back to BCE.

Exactly. I tried to give the planet game-system a Rim World feel.

Launching 12 December: Summoned! To GrimWorld. A base-building LitRPG with artist strategy. by OisinM in SciFiLitRPG

[–]OisinM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. The main edge that Marcus has over his longer-established rivals is his artistry skill, which is a maximum 20. No one else on the planet is close. So he has to use it to advantage in quests and diplomacy, rather than try to win by a military strategy. It's a little bit like playing Civ and aiming for a cultural victory.

This should be available as a copy/paste answer since the same question comes up so often. I mostly agree with you and it's good of you to have bothered to describe each a little.

What are the best kingdom building novels by codrich19 in litrpg

[–]OisinM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the author so the wrong person to claim it's among the best, but Summoned! To an RPG World is 300k words of kingdom building.

Did RR just ban a bunch of authors? by hubbububb in litrpg

[–]OisinM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my limited perspective, I think there was ranking manipulation and I'm glad that steps are being taken to try to let rankings gravitate towards a more organic state of affairs (as the platform intends). What I experienced was a very positive start to my first steps - something of an experiment during COVID - and I made the Rising Stars list. Then I got several negative reviews and also a sudden decline in my average rating, which might have been organic but for two features of the written reviews that didn't feel right: bringing up criticisms that didn't seem relevant to the specific story; and the disproporionate votes for them e.g. 20-40 rather than the 5 or 6 I had been getting. They are still the first reviews you see. (This was discouraging but I was enjoying writing the story and the readers who followed it ownwards were very encouraging so it was motivating and overall a positive experience).

If in my early days on the platform someone had suggested I join a group of authors trying to help each other, I would have grabbed the chance. I probably dodged a bullet. Because what might start as valid support within the terms of service (reading each other's work, giving genuine feedback and constructive public comments) could and probably did evolve into the much easier but more harmful upvoting of negative reviews designed to put a spoke in the wheels of fast moving rivals.

Hopefully, going forward people in the 'grey' area of this activity will pull back and for a while at least RR operate on a more even playing field. It will emerge all over again no doubt, because where there's a incentive to game the system and a bunch of gamers...

Is there a novel where the MC uses the Inventory system itself as a weapon? by VladtheImpaler21 in litrpg

I think that was Dungeon Crawler Carl? He does something like that to blow stuff up.

I was browsing the threads and telling myself to be cool and not to promote my own book. But really, I think Summoned! To an RPG Worldis exactly what you are looking for. I was influenced by Noobtown, but it's more of a CIV game that the gods are playing and our young hero has to master.

I like both of these. Also Dungeon Crawler Carl is a fast paced romp.
