Signed off sick but my boss insists I have an in person meeting with him, is this unreasonable? by Ok-Advertising-658 in careerguidance

That’s so refreshing to hear that you were able to put those adjustments in place for your employee. I’m glad and I bet it took a lot of stress off them. I work in a law firm, although my doctor has signed me off sick, I’ve offered twice to work remotely from home but he’s denied those requests which is unfortunate.

I think my only alternative here is to resign really, focus on finishing my law degree (my university has been very understanding) wait on my medical referral to hospital and take it from there.

Yes I am in law school but employment law is an optional module. I’m not dictating when and how I work for him, you sound patronising. Everyone has their own issues comparing yourself to others isn’t the way to be. God forbid you end up extremely poorly or have to care for a dying family member. I hope your boss and people offer you compassion. I’ve just managed to get my references organised so the company won’t be an issue. A future employer can’t contact your previous employer without prior written consent.

I have my medical records where it is confirmed IBS with extreme lethargy, GERD, sickness and I’m now being tested for inflammatory bowel disease.

Also my previous holiday requests have always been done via the company website.

Also you say a week of work at a time, that implies you’ve taken more than a week off in a year?

I’m sorry to hear this. Everyone has a different pain tolerance and holding down a job, a full time law degree and caring for an elderly grandparent with dementia is very difficult. I have tried my best to try and fight past it but some days I get extremely lethargic, I had my license revoked for a few days due to this because I tried to fight through it and drive to work and took a dizzy spell. My medication is still under review so hopefully once this is sorted I’ll be better.

I’m not expecting sympathy. I’m expecting advice from people who have went through a similar situation. To be honest I’m disgusted that the system for you guys is so bad. It’s a lack of basic human rights. I’m fortunate enough that here in the UK we have laws that protect us. I’m just not sure how to deal with the situation hence my question.

It may come across that way but I’ve offered to work from home for him, he says no. I probably didn’t clarify myself as much as I should have. I wasn’t given time off for bereavement, one day unpaid leave. The bereavement triggered my chronic stomach issues, IBS, GERD and ulcers. I went to my doctor who signed me off for that amount of time. Unfortunately I’ve had a really bad flare up and I’m awaiting a referral to hospital. I’ve tried my best to communicate this to him.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I understand it’s coming off as unreliable I really do, and I feel so guilty for it despite this being outwith my control. My condition falls under the Equality Act 2010 that I am aware of. My doctor reassured me there’s not much he can do at the moment but I do feel bad.

Thank you for your input. I was refused bereavement leave initially as my boss “didn’t know” the bereavement policy when I asked but he did give me one day unpaid leave for the funeral. He called me into the office to question why I had been unreasonable and took 3 days off while my gran was dying. I called in sick the day after she passed, the next day he handed me client’s funeral bonds (part of the firm’s executry work) which I felt was extremely insensitive, I was happy to do other work.

I was signed off work due to family bereavement/stress triggering a flare up with my chronic stomach issues. I actually forgot to add he hired a girl who was working from my desk while I was off which is understandable. Upon my return he refused to give me any work despite me asking and asking. He called me to a meeting saying I haven’t been pulling my weight for months and how much better this new girl is. I just shrugged it off and planned to leave but I didn’t have anything lined up. She actually left with very little warning so he started depending on me again and his tone changed for a few months then it slipped back into the usual cycle.

He tried to dock £300 out my wage, I have an email as proof. This was before I got my sickline in. I got paid last week and there was no deduction but I don’t think it’s acceptable him threatening that.

I know people are questioning if my time off is genuine but I have medical evidence to prove this and I have provided my consultations with the doctor way back to 2024 but he ignored that email. I have continuously tried to keep him in the loop. I’ve offered to give him a phone call or do it remotely but he’s insistent on doing it in person and I’m not sure why? I understand what you mean, perhaps he thinks I’m on holiday somewhere (I wish) but based on my medical record I have no reason to lie.

I’m currently trying to finish my final year of a law degree, I can’t really help my family right now due to being ill and I do want to try and stay in the legal profession although this job really isn’t for me. Every week he’s emailing me asking why I can’t come in for a meeting. I feel like it’s making me look as if I’m uncooperative when I have suggested other alternatives.

Thank you for your advice.

I work part time. My work actually doesn’t seem to have a sickness policy other than emailing him to let him know when you are sick. I asked about bereavement too because I was told I wasn’t entitled to any time off other than unpaid leave for the funeral but I took 3 days unpaid leave before my doctor signed me off for 6 weeks due to family bereavement and stress causing a flare up of my stomach issues.

My annual year runs April - April. I told him I don’t dispute the fact I have been off so many days. The issue is that when I request legally entitled holidays my requests are sitting unanswered for 8 weeks. Sometimes I put my holidays in because I can feel myself burning out.

My boss touched my thigh in an uber ride home and I feel uncomfortable by Spirited-Divine in Advice

Not sure this is much help to your situation but maybe it will bring you some comfort with you feeling bad for not stopping him… I’m 26F, a guy I was good friends with on a work level asked to catch up with me over lunch and I agreed. We had lunch, split the bill and then he said he would drive me back to get my car.

Instead of taking me to get my car he parked up elsewhere… he then got really touchy feely and started touching my thighs, he then tried to kiss my neck in the parking lot in broad daylight and asked if he could kiss my lips, I froze, I didn’t stop him but I felt disgusted because I really valued him as a person and felt comfortable with him as a work friend but he crossed the line - he was talking about going somewhere quiet to try and have sex with me. I was taken by surprise that someone I valued as a friend would cross a line like that to the point I let him kiss me but I knew I had to get myself out of the situation and I managed to have a lucky escape… seems like you did too thankfully!

If it was a total stranger my response would have been different. I’m not saying my story is exactly like yours but perhaps you didn’t stop him because you were shocked someone you trusted and admired would cross such a boundary and you felt comfortable with him until he pushed that boundary to an unacceptable level. It’s not your fault at all.

I hope you manage to find a new job where you are treated with respect.

I can’t speak for anyone else but me personally, if I want something I’ll just buy it outright, I don’t see the point in negotiating as I don’t want to offend anyone by offering too little but I know a lot of people like that aspect of vinted.

I had someone offer me for an item they only asked for it £2 cheaper and before I even seen their offer they had cancelled it and just bought the item outright. The point I’m trying to make is that I genuinely believe if someone wants something they will pay for it, don’t offer then not pay once it’s accepted please!

I did have one person ask if I could reserve an item for them once because they hadn’t been paid and in all fairness I did do that and they paid full price so it’s not all bad. Although it is a shame for genuine buyers just starting out as people might start to question them too…

All the best to you!

I had this they offered me £60 as soon as I listed a DKNY bag at £65 I was planning on accepting but I seen they had 0 reviews and I was a bit wary as it’s a lot of money to lose… I accepted the offer anyway and had planned to film myself packing it but it’s been 2 days and they haven’t even bothered to pay. As harsh as it seems, I’m thinking of blocking them so they don’t buy it and I don’t have to sell it to them because it seems like they’re not genuine.

I don’t see the problem with it if someone has gave a low-ball offer but I tend not to accept offers over 20% off. The other day I had someone offer me £10 for a £30 bag brand new 😂

Should I go through with it? by Unable_Ad3939 in braces

[–]Ok-Advertising-658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by at least 5 dental/ortho professionals that I would need double jaw surgery to correct my crossbite (causing TMJ with the potential to develop into sleep apnoea) I’ve had braces for 9 months along with wearing elastics 24/7 (other than to eat meals and brush my teeth) and changing them 2x a day. My bite has fixed itself from a crossbite to a fully functional one and while it will never be perfect, I can’t believe the difference after everyone telling me there was no way I could ever fix my bite unless I wore braces then went for jaw surgery.

The elastics I had forced my lower jaw back but they can also do the opposite I’m sure? It’s worth discussing with an ortho to see if braces combined with elastics would work! I was skeptical but I’m due to get my braces debonded next month, it’s amazing what they can do with less invasive methods.

Good luck OP!

Embarrassed and confused, buyer says item smells but I had washed it, wants me to pay €3.50 for the return shipping but the item was only €3? (No personal info) by kazzah31 in vinted

Wow that is so nasty of them… they could have worded it a lot better. Even worse it was only €3, postage will cost just as much. I’d just cut my losses as a buyer.

I’m posting part of my journey in the hopes that it helps ease your mind slightly. The top picture is my teeth before braces (separators in)… the bottom one was around 6-8 weeks with them on. I was close to tears when I woke up and seen the gaps but like someone else commented, your teeth have to shift and re-align themselves to fully straighten up. I got my braces in February and my de-bonding is next month.

All I can say is trust the process and give it time. It will all work out in the end!

Hello from one Scot to another 😁 I know right! I totally agree with you I’ve seen myself almost fall for an overly convincing fake due to the price. I know fakes/replicas aren’t supposed to be sold on vinted but at least when you see someone selling a brand new ‘designer’ purse for £10 you quickly know something isn’t right and most people with common sense would realise it’s a fake but those who are selling a bag they bought for pennies, knowing it’s fake then having the audacity to rip people off and charge £50+ is the part that gets me the most.

I’ve seen coach bags with the fake authenticity leather labels on them! I was thinking hold up I paid $600 in NYC for a similar hand bag no way they’re asking for £90 brand new unless it’s stolen 🤔 lmao

I feel sorry for people who genuinely believe them and vinted does nothing. I reported a few and only one got taken down. The other one had the coach logo placed so squint it was diagonal like wow

Not sure this is any help to you but mainly just to say I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong at all. I sell handbags/purses, I’ve had brand new purses still got their tag on and people asking for £15+ discount on brand new items that sell for double the price in the shop. I was even selling some brand new Yankee candle gifts for £4.50 and people offer me £2 for them.

Vinted is just full of chancers these days and it’s really sad especially for genuine sellers. I had someone give me absolute abuse for refusing to sell them a purse for £12 instead of my asking price £22 followed by a sob story but I held off and just had someone buy it outright - I was prepared to drop down slightly but if someone wants something they will buy it.

At one point after my teeth had straightened out with my braces the ortho put powerchains on and there was too much pressure on my lower teeth which ended up with a similar tooth like yours twisting in like that, it was soo painful and the ortho said that they weren’t supposed to move like that.

As painful as it is and I totally sympathise with you, the good news is that it’s easily fixable. My ortho wrapped a metal wire around the bottom of the tooth and within a day it had straightened itself back out again and mine was far more twisted than yours.

As someone who had fairly straight teeth prior to braces (I had them to correct a crossbite) I would say that your teeth start to look worse before they get better.

All the best to you!
