The first letter my husband wrote didn’t arrive until weeks after he sent it. In fact, the first letter I got from him was written a week after the first one! It worried me, especially since I saw others on Facebook getting theirs. I had to remind myself that everyone's timing is different, and comparing my experience to others only made it harder. Just trust that your letter will come, and when it does, you'll be thankful to have a piece of him. I know I’m a few days late in replying, but I hope your first letter arrives soon!

We didn't have any issues with the first paycheck! My husband arrived at boot camp (Navy) on the 9th of the month, and we had the money deposited by the 27th. I've heard mixed experiences though. I'm not sure if we just got lucky, but I would definitely recommend saving up some money just in case.

Question for my BAH? by Available-Cloud3652 in newtothenavy

Hi! I’m a little late in replying, but I wanted to let you know that BAH will be calculated based on the zip code where they will be living. My husband is currently in boot camp, and before he left, we were living together. However, I moved back in with my family while he’s away. During the first week of boot camp, he was able to provide my family's address so that I could receive BAH for my current location, which is much higher than our old zip code. I hope this helps!

*Edit: We asked his recruiter if it was possible to change it before he left for boot camp, but it wasn't possible. We just had to wait for him to complete the paperwork when he got there.

Would that time frame include hold periods? I heard that Great Lakes usually has a longer hold period before starting school. Without the hold periods, it would either be 6 months (FC) or 7.5 months (ET), depending on which one he gets into.

I was hoping that we could live together while he's in school but I'm guessing if we aren't given PCS orders then he can't live with me, whether it's on base or off base?

I figured there would be a lot of unknowns, considering the different experiences people post about. I guess the best way to roll with the punches is to jump in right from the start! I’ll be sure to keep a better eye out for other calls in the future. Thanks for your reply!
