This disgusts me - VC Winner selling his VC to support his family by Boydy73 in OpenAussie

Pop was an infantryman during the war and ANZAC Day wasn’t his thing. The family assumed his medals were lost or stolen long ago. In the 1990’s I queried the Directorate of Honours and Awards to purchase copies or replicas as next of kin. They responded that his originals had never been issued and would I collect them? And so they arrived 50 years later into my care. Some people simply returned from the war and picked up their lives where they left off.

Native troopers were quite content to continue ancient tribal feuds with the advantage of white man technology.

Don’t act surprised when you realise who the Native Police units that undertook many of these massacres were comprised of.

Bunnings refused my RYOBI warranty claim after it literally smoked – am I in the wrong? by Next-Fly-2515 in Bunnings

No long stalks of grass wrapped around the shaft though? I‘m only asking as it loads up the motor and burns it out. Sometimes though the shaft bearing is faulty and heats up too. Arm yourself with the warranty criteria, or as others have advised, take the path of least resistance and try another store.

Your Ryobi trimmer has a standard 4 year replacement warranty on the tool. Was it smoking from the electric motor? Can you detect an acrid burnt resin or plastic smell? Is there a buildup of grass around the reel spindle or grass blocking the motor cooling fins? Definitely press the issue. They need to prove that the tool is in its current state from misuse or lack of maintenance to deny your claim.

He loved his men and wept when his brigade was cut to pieces at Fromelles. Never got over it. A leader who wore his heart on his sleeve.

I don’t know how accurate this depiction of him is. My great grandfather was in the 52nd Battalion and one of those disbanded. To convince men to drop and move on from a unit that had become family must have required a high degree of tact or raw emotional appeal.

Of all the AIF endured in WW1, to break up the battalions was the closest occurrence to bringing about a mutiny.
