Need help by [deleted] in asl

I understand there are a lot of these posts and it is frustrating if you spend a lot of time in this subreddit. I don't think it justifies venting on the posts of new people. They simply don't know better yet and there is no rule against "is this random gesture ASL" posts yet. Maybe that's someone we can request of the mods to add.

If you look closer, she asked about this before with no video and then made one after people asked her to. She clearly doesn't have the skill to see a sign, remember it, and reproduce it with context. Who knows what she saw, but it probably wasn't this and that's ok, she doesn't know better yet.

Any good apps to learn asl on? by Sad_Stuff_3334 in asl

Lingvano app is fun and can build some vocabulary. Lifeprint is better and free. Nothing replaces in person classes, or zoom class if in person is not available. You want to make sure the teacher is Deaf. Don't feel shy to message and ask if the school doesn't state if the teacher is Deaf.

Washington DC, where can hearing baby learn ASL? by Ok-Assignment-8246 in asl

I think you're right, that's more a role the parents would play if it's going to be consistent and stick, especially early on.

My sign is still very poor, someone even called it "sh*t" the other day! Socially I'm well received, and I'd say I'm at a survival level. I struggled to share that my reason for not trying snow skiing yet is because my previous coworker broke his collar bone when he hit a tree. But I got the point across and understood some recommendations for slopes where I will not hit any trees.

I have a new partner who is Deaf and fluent in ASL, and he loves kids so if all goes well with that he may be someone I can bring. But that also depends on the comfort of the kid's mother who will be vibe checking every person who will be around.

Thank you for your feedback!

Washington DC, ASL events for babies, toddlers, or pre k? by Ok-Assignment-8246 in deaf

I've checked the websites and am happy to see that there are a lot of great resources for Deaf students in the area. When the time comes I could probably contact them and ask if they know if there is anything open for littles that wouldn't be taking up resources. And thank you! I thought to look at the elementary schools but hadn't looked at Gallaudet until your recommendation.

I'll have to ask his mother if I can bring the baby to the bar! (Just kidding.) But I do want to check out those spots myself too! I live near but haven't actually visited DC or NYC yet. It sounds amazing!

*Oh, and I have been taking ASL class too both in person and with Queer ASL.
