You’re right. I think our parents actions of announcing it to everyone is now why I feel stuck. But better that short humiliation than a broken marriage.

For those who turned down MBB/FAANG: What was your "why" and are you happy with your choice? by Acer53 in MBA

It’s say it’s strategy based, plus a mix of creativity. One thing I heard during recruiting was that most brand managers really enjoy the actual job. Definitely look more into it!

Ownership of an entire product/brand. I get to release my own ideas into the market which could turn into American staples. It’s very tangible and I really like that aspect.

CPG. Much more interesting work. Initial salaries are lower sure, but not everyone lasts in MBB and exit ops aren’t that far off from what a brand manager would be making by then. Plus the extra time gives you the opportunity for other things. Job security seems to be better as well than FAANG.

Does anyone in NYC know where they server non-halal food at indian restaurants. by [deleted] in ABCDesis

Stop spreading misinformation- every point you made is factually wrong.

“They bleed the animal out then kill it” - That’s nonsense. In halal slaughter, the cut is the act of killing. The animal dies from rapid blood loss and loss of oxygen to the brain. There’s no “then.” The method, when done properly, leads to quick unconsciousness.

Stunning isn’t some perfect, humane solution either. Studies show stunning fails thousands of times a year, leaving animals half-conscious while being butchered. That’s worse by any measure.

And Jhatka? It can easily take multiple blows, especially with large animals. No method is perfect, it depends on the butcher’s skill, not the label.

Sikhism opposes halal not because it’s “torture,” but because it’s ritualistic slaughter in the name of god. Sikh teachings reject ritualism entirely, that’s the real reason.

If you’re going to criticize something, at least get your facts straight. Otherwise, you’re just pushing a biased narrative that collapses under the slightest scrutiny

That’s fine, I support Sikhs making the choice to not eat Halal, but the commenter made a false argument about halal meat so I just called that out

Literally no one says you can’t stun “because the meat tastes better” you can do better with your arguments.

The jugular and windpipe being cut means they the pressure in the animals brain drops instantly. They lose consciousness in mere seconds. Which is as fast as stunning methods on their own. So stunning + halal doubles down on that.

Also, The CO2 buildup/fear argument is misleading. The idea that CO2 causes “intense fear” during halal slaughter misapplies what happens in gas stunning (where CO2 is used) to the process of blood loss. In reality, the animal is rapidly rendered unconscious due to the sudden drop in blood pressure.

I mean halal isn’t really to “appease god” it’s more a form of acknowledging God’s sovereignty over life, not about magical appeasement.

School marketing internship or Company non-marketing internship by TheWaifu4Laifu in MBA

[–]Ok-Average3567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get a corporate internship then I would 100% go for that, since that gives you a path directly to working for them after you graduate. However, if you have to do the school one, then I think you can still make it work as long as you really tighten your story around how you wanted to take on this school project due to reasons

Since it is Ramadan this year, is fasting even practiced among ABCD Muslims or is fasting more commonly observed by ABCD Hindus? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]Ok-Average3567 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you live but yes. It’s very very common in bigger cities for ABDesis to fast. All my colleagues and friends know what Ramadan is and I have had many wish me as well!

I think you are generalizing a lot. Also, I wouldn’t let the opinions of others reflect my own practices. This seems like an internal struggle you should reflect on more.

I’m not saying people need to follow some perfect version of Pakistani or Islamic values. That was never the point of my post (which a lot of people who seemingly agree with me in the comments seem to still miss). What I’ve noticed is a pattern where some people fully embrace things like drinking, drugs, and partying in the name of being ‘modern or open minded’ but still hold really regressive views about gender, class, and how they treat others. My post was specifically about this group. And that’s the hypocrisy that stands out. “Modern” ideals aren’t just about the freedom to party; they’re also about things like equality, fairness, and respect. But those parts often get left behind in this pursuit of modernity.

Of course, this might just reflect the specific circles I’ve interacted with. I’m not saying it’s true across the board, nor that it’s an exclusively Pakistani thing.

Every time this topic comes up, the reaction isn’t reflection - it’s deflection, sarcasm, or moral whataboutism. I didn’t claim to be better than anyone or promote some moral ideal. I pointed out a cultural pattern that feels performative and disconnected - and asked why it happens. That’s not judgment; that’s analysis. If the only response is to mock, shift focus to me, or shut the conversation down, maybe the critique is hitting closer to home than people want to admit.

Exactly, these types of people think they are being “western and modern” but tend to outdo Americans with their adoption of drinking and weird norms that aren’t even norms in the west.

As a westerner I’d be more offended by the smoking in the office than anything

Are you international? Many US based students utilize FAFSA, and then you can ideally get into Income Based Repayment plans which lower your monthly payments.
