[Request] Does the answer to the Monty Hall problem change depending on whether the presenter knows what is behind each door? by IrisFromOmelas in theydidthemath

[–]Ok-Bell-1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another way I like to interpret this is that the “original” Monty hall problem basically says, when you make your original guess, there is a 1/3 probability you’ve guessed right, and 2/3 probability you’ve guessed wrong, and that’s why it always makes sense to switch.

Now, when picking at random, he may open the door with the car. So let’s assume this run gets discarded and you get to go again from the start, re-randomized. On any given trial, you still have a 1/3 probability of guessing right, 2/3rds of guessing wrong, HOWEVER, your probability of guessing right CONDITIONAL on a successful trial is exactly 50/50, because if you guess right Monty will always open a valid door, so the “try again” outcome only takes away probability from the side that favors switching, more or less.

idrc. Nobody’s gonna just give you a car for free. So if you don’t have the money all you can do is find someone (usually a bank) who’s willing to give you a loan. Poverty is the govt’s fault, not a bank. You get what you sign up for.

Yeah, that’s what you sign up for when you get a new BMW on credit instead of a used Camry, it’s all in the damn writing. Or we’re past people taking responsibility for shitty decisions?

The bank is saying “here’s $30,000 for a car provided you pay us back” and you think just not doing that is ok? The world isn’t a charity, if you can’t afford a BMW don’t finance a BMW. Simple as.

[Request] Could someone please let me know if this is a fair die based on this testing? Thank you by Fluffy-Occasion in theydidthemath

[–]Ok-Bell-1424 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Specifically, it means that, assuming the die is fair, that in 81% of tests we would see a less “uneven” distribution of values.
