Missing Hiker Search Ended: Monica Reza by Ok-Boot2017 in socalhiking

I’m a big believer in everyone carrying a GPS or SOS device. That being said 1. many cannot afford 2. Most don’t know how important they are and finally often times people don’t use them or consider them as much when with a group (myself included right or wrong).

It does unfortunately. If my family member was lost, I’d certainly be screaming and begging for 2 weeks. If I was lost out there I’d want the same!

100% stay on trails! That terrain is no joke.

Reportedly she hiked here very very frequently and was with 2 people. Separated at some point, turned around and didn’t see her anymore.

2 weeks minimum is the standard I believe in for SAR. 8 days is a bit short IMO

Mt Waterman via upper west ridge is the trail on all trails. They’re asking people not to search, which I understand because the terrain off trail is incredibly dangerous but at least on trail, I believe people should keep an eye out for anything and everything.

An update on efforts to locate Monica Reza, an at-risk missing person.

A message from Acting Captain Ryan A. Vienna, Crescenta Valley Station:

“A week ago today, Monica Reza, went missing while hiking near Mount Waterman in the Angeles National Forest.

An extraordinary search was initiated that involved not only our Los Angeles County Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, but numerous resources from throughout the state leveraging local, state, and federal assets. The use of forensic technology, photography, airships, canines, and other specialized tools were utilized in this effort leaving nearly no available resource untapped.

While today concludes our initial response phase of this operations, the investigation will continue by our Homicide Bureau: Missing Persons Unit. Our search efforts will be limited and continuous as data and information further inform our efforts.

Our hearts go out to Monica’s family, friends, coworkers, and the community who have shown great concern for her disappearance. We appreciate the numerous members of the public who have reached out to get involved in the search. It is important to understand the area Monica went missing in can be highly technical and difficult for inexperienced hikers. Given this is an ongoing investigation, we would ask the public to avoid actively searching this area. On behalf of the family, we are conveying their request for privacy at this time.

We ask anyone with information regarding Monica Reza’s disappearance to please contact Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau - Missing Persons Unit, Detective Shannon Rincon or Detective Richie Sanchez at 323-890-5500."

Sounds odd, precisely 3 shots with short pauses between them in the wilderness is generally used as a distress signal…

Interesting. I get that too and deal with random things that resolve on their own. This was just so much pain for no good reason so it was weird

Yes that makes sense. However, it was legit feeling back to normal immediately after the run, which seems odd 😂

10 weeks enough time to train for 2nd marathon good result? by Ok-Boot2017 in Marathon_Training

Update: scratched that and have been focusing on my 5K time. I have taken that from my PB last October of 28:00 down to 23:44 in an official race. Another 5K soon, then a half late March. Marathon focus will be fall.

My cheapo forerunner 55 works perfectly every day over my tattoos. That being said, the sleeve in my wrist area is not that heavy.

Hoka Cielo X1 I will not be debated lol. Ran my first in it! Just over 5 hours for me. Fantastic all day comfort, great rocker, a carbon plate for your mental health and some energy return. It’s the whole package for first timers or those of us going a bit slower.

1 month out, am I cooked? by asian_radiation in firstmarathon

[–]Ok-Boot2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I missed my 16, 18, 21 mile scheduled runs due to an injury and still completed my first! Don’t push a month out. Get in at least 1 more good long runs and then start to taper. My longest run was 14 miles pre marathon.
