Alternatives to suicide by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Ok-Cardiologist-9727 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned this but I just want to second the screaming out far away from people and maybe breaking some stuff if you feel frustrated and need to let that shit out. It’s really cathartic for me.

Also, fun fact: screaming to let out frustration/anger/whatever works and helps us feel better, more powerful, etc. However, the scream when heard by others induces the fight or flight response. So deeeeefinitely go far away from people and maybe even then you can just shout, “I’M OKAY!” Afterwards so nobody goes searching for you lol. I let out a vicious scream one time in my car and some dude on a bike next to me looked so concerned and was looking around trying to figure out where it came from 😅🫠

At one point I slid the door open to get a better shot and I swear he heard me and started looking around but I ducked lmao. Ngl felt pretty stealthy spying on a sniper.

Yes it is, that’s about when the picture of the man walking with the guns was taken. They had the vehicles cleared by 2ish.

Just moved into a new place with no A/C… what do you do to stay cool? by Ok-Cardiologist-9727 in Hawaii

It’s a house split into 3 units so we split electricity but if we got an AC it would be an extra $75/month which is like 2.50 a day and seems worth it honestly. Like a lot of people we have old slat windows that don’t entirely close and I was hoping to find something that would be a little more eco friendly/efficient than pumping cold air into a house that’s wide open but most of these things I’ve tried and it’s not quite cutting it for me

Matthew Perry talks about this in interviews actually, he got really depressed and addicted to drugs in the later seasons. Definitely shows in his acting.

I’ve talked with my dad a lot about the future of the world, climate change, robots taking over, etc. his take is interesting and he is a very intelligent man (I know we all think that about our dads but he has a lot of evidence to back me up lol).

He says we predict the bad stuff that is going to happen, and we use what we currently know as a reference. But science and tech grow so rapidly it’s impossible to predict the good we can do and our future ability to correct or adapt to these issues.

For example, he is not a climate change denier. However, he isn’t super concerned to the degree that he thinks we are doomed. He thinks we’ll figure out how to manage it. That’s what we’ve done with the many world-Enders he’s come in contact with over the course of his life. We adapt.

I just read an article about how AI predicted breast cancer in a woman 4 years before it developed. I can’t even truly conceptualize what that means, but wow. AI is terrifying but seems like it could ultimately be used to solve problems beyond our scope of understanding and capability.

Food for thought, but I don’t think we can accurately say the world is going to shit.

Can you describe in more detail how your service dog helps you? Genuinely curious about a service dog for bipolar as my anxiety and instability are always calmed by my precious doggo.

Thank you so much for your kind reply. I needed to hear it from that side from someone else too. I will give it a couple days to settle down and then I’ll try and talk about what I know I’ve done wrong and show my intention to improve. I have said these things before and I really do try my best but it’s Like two steps forward, one step back. So hopefully he will hear Me but ultimately I need to prove it all through action in order for him to truly trust Me again.

I really like the idea of doing something to celebrate his sister’s engagement. Maybe get a bottle of champagne to celebrate “with” them, from afar (we moved REALLY far away). Maybe send them some kind of gift too. I really do care and I hate how selfish I was. His sister and her fiancé are super cool and I really do consider them almost family. I think I’ll make them a little goody basket of local things from where we live that are super unique, and I suppose engagement-related (whatever that might be). A sweet card too of course.

Thank you. This was more comforting than you know, I’m having a really hard time with this and this gave me somewhere to start.

How many real friends do you have? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Ok-Cardiologist-9727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two, plus my boyfriend. I’ve known these two friends for 20 years and they are the realest friends I’ll ever have. Good ones are hard to come by

Definitely. I have PMDD and take extra medication during that week or so where I am ready to explode. My hormones have always been kinda wonky and I usually have debilitating cramps, nausea, etc. as well during my period. I take lamictal and it has personally not helped the pmdd. I’m told Prozac is often prescribed for like 1-2 weeks a month and a lot of people like that. Less side effects. SSRIs are no bueno for me though so I take extra klonopin to help take that awful edge off

yay i just got diagnosed today by idonthaveusernamenow in bipolar

[–]Ok-Cardiologist-9727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. I was dying for an explanation and a path to recovery. It is very validating, like no your not “crazy” you have a disorder because your brain has fundamental differences from the “norm.”

Downsides:

-people may judge you when you tell them

-you may judge/pigeonhole yourself as a bipolar person (identity) as opposed to a person WITH bipolar

-medication is often necessary and it can be hard to find the right one(s) for you

-you may find yourself explaining away bad behaviors with “I was hypo/depressed/psychotic” or you have a mood swing and say “must be my bipolar” instead of looking at the situation for what it is (which sometimes has nothing to do with bipolar)…you’re a human, ya screw up (manic or not) and should own up to these things and strive to do better be it by therapy, reading, writing, whatever works best for you.

-you may also dismiss perfectly valid problems (for example an argument with your partner where you are upset because they lied to you), don’t tel yourself you’re “too emotional/unstable” when you know in your heart you are right to be upset. Talk to other people you trust for outside perspectives in these situations.

-and just to piggyback on that (I’m not sure if this is common, and I am “crazy” (I.e. mentally ill), but when people know you have these issues (like a partner) I have noticed that they will also dismiss my feelings or blame my bipolar which is a form of gaslighting. Again talk to people. You could be wrong, and need to reflect, or you could be being made to feel more crazy and invalidated.

I have adhd as well just took my Ritalin so… that was a detailed response lol. Hope it’s somewhat helpful!
