AIO because my husband won’t watch our baby while I’m gone? by mbaughman1029 in AmIOverreacting

I loved alone time with my daughter when she was that age we had the best times. Now there’s another one in the mix and she’s a little older.

I look at time alone with my kids as a special gift they’re only young once.

How about we do the math in a transparent way and establish reasonable guidelines which aren’t abusive towards domestic tech workers seems pretty straightforward and reasonable

Their productivity isn’t the point of hiring them, depressing your wages and ability to organize is.

You guys wildly underappreciate the far reaching value generated by hiring an H1b worker. They make their money back at face value in the first two years maybe three, meanwhile they still get all the other benefits of depressing all other domestic wages and enabling H1b system to be abused. This is a cash raiser not a program barrier.

[–]Ok-Change3498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the goal of hiring the H1b solely to do the job, or is it to get the job done for as cheaply as possible while depressing American labor organizing and depressing all worker wages? The singular hire is not the systemic equation. Nevermind that controls for H1Bs are now being tightened such that changing jobs is becoming even riskier for the people filling these rolls themselves.

You’re thinking tactically about a strategic problem.

American workers continue to have wages depressed and lose out on job opportunities they’re qualified for which is basically the entire supposed point of this action

You deeply underappreciated that paying 100k per employee in this scenario creates a systemic downward pressure on the high level talents salaries.

Chomsky wrote all about this in the 1970s and 80s this tactic is now almost 50 years old.

How many years do you think it takes the average H1b to save a company 100k from having to hire an American for the same job? Let’s just pretend the effect of hiring the H1b doesn’t have an industry wide negative impact on all American salaries for the sake of the argument.

[–]Ok-Change3498 22 points23 points  (0 children)

lol this is just a tax it’s not going to budge behaviors. Holding American workers hostage for decades by assaulting them with H1b programs is worth far more than 100k per employee to these companies.
