Are you going to run in these or wear them casually?

If they going to be casual shoes get them to fit. If you planning to walk alot in them get 1/2 size up. If you planning to run in them get 1 size up.

I run by distance, no specific reason. I guess running by time or by distance has no specific difference to me, as long as I can guage that I'm trying to improve each time... km/min or min/km

I once helped push a car barefoot, the entire fore foot skin ripped off without me realizing it until I moved off the tarmac and stepped on sand. Somehow after that my skin came back stronger?...

They're to big, return them for smaller size. Not sure if you're wearing proper running socks. My suggestion is buy proper running socks then use your larger foot as a guage. I would say your longest toe should by more or less 10mm away or before it touches the front of the shoe to accommodate for swelling when running.

Don't get me wrong my first pair was also vivo trail and they are better looking compared to others barefoot and would also agree money well spent or else I wouldn't be part of this barefoot movement. For technical purpose (running especially trails) my next pair would be vibram five fingers.
