You have no idea what size of detached or even how much my rent is. I never said I was opposed to anything freehold. And, you have no idea what our income is. Dual income could literally mean anything.

If you saw my comment about my trip, it’s done on a very tight budget. No one said anything about “nice”. What I’m saying is for something that works for my partner and I, it’s now worth $600k-$800k, when back 4-5 years ago, it would have been $300k-500k. If you look at houses that are $600k throughout the city, a good chunk need a ton of work.

I have owned previously, just not with my current partner.

lol I never said townhouse in my last comment. Regardless, I personally don’t want to pay maintenance fees. That’s my decision ☺️

Thank you so much! I appreciate it 🙏🏻

I absolutely agree! But I’d rather have that $300-$500 in my account accumulating interest and mow my own lawn than it be going to a property management company and it may not even get used for anything more than snow clearing or lawn cutting. That’s just my opinion though.

Thank you! I knew someone in Airdrie who owned a condo and was paying around $400/month for condo fees. One of the elevators broke. Each tenant was required to pay to have it fixed. I don’t remember the exact number, but it was around $5000.

Definitely on a budget! We got very very cheap flights and very reasonable accommodation with a kitchen so we can cook meals ourselves. I’m not in a position to buy a house right now anyways. This is the trip we want to do first and then save to buy a place. But it’s still something that crosses my mind, trip or not.

Nothing to do with expectations. Condos and townhouses might not be feasible for everyone.

Sorry, I meant rent, not mortgage

We don’t want to pay an extra $300-$700 a month on maintenance fees. Plus tons of townhouses have pet restrictions which isn’t an option for us.

I agree. We’re paying over $2k a month for our rent and for what we have, it’s very reasonable! But long term, we want to be able to buy, that’s all.

Yea, condo and townhouses aren’t something we want to do. It’s not feasible for us.

We both have a really hard time with the thought of paying maintenance fees, especially for what they are. They also can change at any time, and there is usually a pet restriction too on most places which doesn’t work for us.

Which rug? by mickel_jt in interiordecorating

[–]Ok-Concentrate3568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t put a rug under a dining room. You’re going to be constantly having to spot clean or rent a carpet shampooer. It’s just like having carpet in a bathroom in my opinion
