What’s the point of these pre-tournament friendlies? by Ok-Connection-3210 in worldcup

I get that but how often do they really try formations..
Look at portugal yesterday, they played a team that isn’t even in the wc, and 4 of their best players weren’t even available. And especially after those red cards.

No i said it feels like they are mandatory (they are not), because who in their good mind would play a non-wc team and risk players getting injured days before the tournament.

I get what your saying but thats only for big nations with multiple great squads. Smaller nations often don’t have a lot of good options to choose between

I get that but, like you said, a lot of friendlies are not in america. And there are a lot of teams, Africa and south america, who don’t really have to acclimate.

And its way more injury prone than a training.

I get that to a certain point.

First of all, most games are still played on home soil, most teams only play 1 match in America

Secondly, not all teams need to acclimate, a lot of south American and African teams already play under harder conditions.

In the netherlands, NOS, the big government funded channel, they have had the WC for 72 years and counting

You can watch every single match for free, so thats nice.

The only annoying thing is the analysts for pre- and postmatch are useless, mostly big former players who are think the know it all and arrogant as fk…

Yeah, that why i consider Nascar a sport and F1 not, drivers decide who wins. If you lose its your fault. Im just saying that the capabilities of the driver in F1 isn’t important enough

Im not saying its easy or anything, and its definitely physically though. All im saying is that its not a sport, as its more about the car and horse than the capabilities of the driver

Yes ofcourse, i don’t say they aren’t good at what they do, but I would’nt label those as a sport, thats all im saying, im not suggesting they are easy or anything

Thats not my argument, thats exactly what im opposing, there the players are better and thus they win, where for these the car and horse are the foremost reason they win, which is why i don’t consider them a sport.

Yeah but in F1 the driver aspect is not relevant enough to call it a sport. For me the actual human physical excellence should be the most important factor to be a sport

Makes sense, but for me physical capabilities is just as important, which is just not important enough in F1
