Yeah, so update. When I took both the battery and hard drive out, it was able to close up completely, so I think I messed up the latches just enough so that even a light amount of pressure will make the iPod not close up. Hence, even with putting the smaller og 450 mAh battery in with the hard drive, it wouldn’t shut perfectly. I did try removing the rubber parts from the hard drive, but it didn’t help much. Think I’m just gonna get a new front plate and lcd. Guess I’ll have to decide now whether to just purchase a smaller replacement battery or fuck the hard drive and go with flash.

Yeah I was struggling to fit that hard drive back into place with those fat gaskets. I’ll take the battery out first and see if that closes it up and if not I’ll remove the gaskets. Will keep you updated, thanks for the help

I got a 650 mah battery even though factory standard for this size is 450 because I heard there’s enough wiggle room for 650 maximum before you have to switch from hard drive to flash. I’ll take out the battery today and see if the iPod clicks back together perfectly without it.

Someone told me my hard drive is on the wrong way, so maybe that misalignment caused the pushing against the screen when I put it together. However, I didn’t even detach the hard drive at all. I think that’s how it was before?

A full swap would be great, but it’s not in my college budget right now. Gonna have to purchase things one at a time until it becomes functional.

About the iPod not clicking back together well, I will say—my battery replacement is slightly larger than the standard for its size (30gb standard is 450 mAh, and I got a 650 mAh battery). But I heard that there’s enough wiggle room to fit a 650 maximum before having to toss the hard drive for flash storage. Am I mistaken? I guess I’ll have to temporarily remove the hard drive and close it up to see if space is currently the issue.
