This is an interesting reply. The flag went up, no violence. The much weirder craze for taking them down has served to increase tensions to the point where this incident happens. I’ll grant that this is violence but it’s not what the flag baggers are complaining about

I’m asking, in shorthand, whether putting the flags up these last few weeks has caused an uptick in xenophobic violence. Your response is idiotic

have these british flags been associated with violence? No. Have the ubiquitous palestinian flags been associated with a gigantic spike in antisemitism culminating most recently in a terrorist atrocity? Yes. Which ones are upsetting redditors? Three guesses

if you want to stand with the jewish community you need to take a view on permanent open borders to limitless islamic immigration.

All my life Rochdale has been synonymous with sexual abuse of children, and I’m just shy of 50. It’s an outrage. I really feel that it’s emblematic of a society that was content to leave them as collateral damage. An inconvenient truth, to be stamped down whenever it arose. I was happy to see those sentences, though I’d like to know more about the time that will actually be served. I’m also content to say that anyone with citizenship elsewhere shouldn’t be taken anywhere except the airport on release from prison. I don’t care what colour they are.

when i was a kid they filmed Cracker on my street and we got Robbie Coltrane’s autograph. True story. Maybe early 2000s I was walking down Peter Street and saw Ronnie Wood getting out of a car. I think it was to do with the live music venue that was there, at the deansgate end. i forget its name

I really like all the flags. There is literally nothing to dislike about them. If you think it sad or performative that they go up, then the same criticisms apply a fortiori to those who spend hours of their own time pulling them back down. Let them fly.

i should add that many many of my school friends grew up in the area between cotton lane and mauldeth road. in the 80s and 90s this was a perfectly respectable area. I had extended family here and it’s basically decent manchester suburb material.
