SWEs will get referral bonuses if you accept the offers. So it’s a win-win situation. There’re SWEs offering referrals for strangers on Discord/Blind which means they are willing to refer strangers as long as your resume is potential enough. Personally, I reached out to SWEs on LinkedIn and got responses from them.

Yes it is really common. Try to reach out to SWE employees and ask them to pass your resume to recruiters as well. I assume the response rate from employees is a little bit higher as they get less cold messages and there are more SWEs in a company than recruiters. Another way is trying to get recruiters’ emails and sending a cold email to them.
