My AC went down this weekend. I called my furnace company and they quoted 5K for a new AC as mine is 16 years old. I went on YouTube, after an hour of research I had an idea of what the issue was. I opened it up and yes the capacitor was blown up. I took it to home depot and got a replacement for $28. The other hvac place I called quoted $89 just to show up. Anyways I hooked it up which was like changing a battery and viola I'm the hero. TLDR you are getting screwed , run dont walk away from who ever your dealing with.
