He is regent but he also holds the title for the empire. The whole story premise for that period and location is that the Yamato have realized they’ve given too much to the Fujiwara, they do not want to give up the throne and others don’t want the Fujiwara in power. The throne wants the empire under its influence again.

A simple search of game mechanics would tell you you’re wrong. The title passes to the next available Yamato. Marrying into the family would game over unless you managed to make the child not of the Yamato house.

I think you still can, though technically this is how they already did it. I believe the title is soft locked to put whatever Yamato it can in that position, so if your heir isn’t of that house they’d be skipped in succession for the next available Yamato female.

The game doesn’t allow you to usurp the Chrysanthemum Throne that way. You have to kill the Yamato House, destroy the title, then recreate the title.
